He has a chance to be a truly legendary ex-player in this city. The type of guy who ends up buying a discounted massive stake in Grossinger so they have the right to call it "Anthony Rizzo's Grossinger" and everybody thinks it's fantastic and not a commercial sell-out.

He'd better win the Clemente award one of these years.

Of course. His Cosby-esque heel turn in 2045 is inevitable.

There always has to be some useless, snarky comment from you. Even on stuff like this. What do you really offer around here?

Caller Bob speaks for no one but himself on this one. Mike is universally loved.

I mean, I wish the Arlington 9 murdered him when they had the chance but that's not my point.

I forgot my point.

It should be pointed out this was his foundation and not necessarily any of his money before we talk about that he is definitely a great person.

You're always so skeptical. Next you'll be saying that Trump isn't funding the Trump Foundation.

Even if he only raised the money thru his name, that's still pretty cool.

It is. It's pretty cool that a ton of people volunteer their time for MANY charitable causes.

To a degree. It gets complicated because much of the time it's just shifting money through a foundation(with the overhead associated with it) rather than a direct donation to the charity of their choice. If I created the Boilermaker Rick foundation, had a board get together that cost 20% of the ticket cost, and then donated the 80% to Salvation Army it really didn't do a whole lot besides let someone make that 20%. Unfortunately, his charity doesn't seem to be big enough to be rated, which may mean that most of the money came from him, or it may mean something else.

Rizzo does seem like a good guy but a large portion of these types of charities are legal money laundering operations to enrich family members and give them fun things to do in the offseason that they can do for free.

I am very happy that he is able to provide himself tax relief and publicity through charitable donations.

Well the most recent tax return for the foundation is 2015. They paid $23k in salaries to administer the fund. Not exactly a family slush fund.

The foundation seems to have grown significantly since then. We really don't know.

Anyways, the major point here is that there is a lot of stuff that goes into play besides "good guy, gets money for charity" with any of these things. Don't forget that one of the biggest charities in sports history was the one run by Lance Armstrong. This could be the greatest thing ever but it is fair to question any of these things and not just blindly say they are a great guy for doing it.

I found it odd that the sign in the waiting room that says "ANTHONY RIZZO® FAMILY FOUNDATION" has a trademark symbol after his name. I guess it's intended to prevent someone else from raising money using his name, but it just looks weird.

Rizzo seems to share a lot in common with Elmhurst Steve. Very sad.

that's good to know cause I'm currently involved in a work comp case against that place. The more money they have to throw around the better. Gonna up my demand to $1,000,000 of that Rizzo money!
