Don’t blame them, not sure why anyone would live in Chicago in the 1st place.

Crime, congestion, rats, etc. no thanks

Crime is concentrated in specific areas.
Congestion is present in any metropolis
Rats?!?

The wife and I will likely move on Chicago in 3-5 years and go west to different metro area like Denver, Portland, or Seattle. A change of scenery where we are able to experience outdoor activities within 1-1.5 hours instead of cornfields

Those areas are no cheaper and have their own issues. But fuck if I'm ever going to live in a soul less city like Atlanta, Houston or Charlotte because a 4 bedroom POS goes for $300K

Crime is now all over man, just look at the reports of stuff going on downtown and carjacking going on in the near Northside, you need to stop with the talking points that crime is only in some places.

There are a ton of outdoor activities within 1-1.5 hours of Chicago. If you mean mountains and hills, then no, there aren't any, but there are many, many other outdoor activities. I can't imagine anyone saying there aren't.

Denver is significantly cheaper, especially on property taxes. In fact, there have been some Tribune pieces showing it to be one of the favorites for ex-Chicagoans to go to due to the lower property taxes. Portland and Seattle would probably have higher costs of livings, especially true in Seattle.

Correct. I meant as in hiking, skiing, kayaking, rafting, etc.

I know...we should shake up Springfield !

Don't regret my vote for Rauner one bit. Will vote for him again. Its too bad emporer Madigan and his chronies oppose him at every turn

Madigan is the real governor of Illinois, and has been for over 3 decades

When will the people of IL wake up and oust Madigan? It can't be just gerrymandering keeping this clown in power...

Madigan is elected by one neighborhood on the southwest side where he runs unopposed or against fictitious people. There's not much everyone else can do.

On top of that, trying to unseat him from his leadership role is pretty much political suicide as he holds far too much power over his caucus and will end your career if you cross him. I'm sure a lot of people in office would love to do it, but know it's a wasted effort on their part.

In other words, you're actually an athlete....I can't do any of that stuff, but many of my friends have moved so that they could take advantage of opportunities to do some serious hiking, hillwalking, kayaking....had a friend move to Utah strictly for the skiing. Had no job lined up, but skiing was that important to him. It worked out beautifully.

Yes it is political suicide to run afoul of Madigan. True story. About 8 or 9 years ago i had preliminary (one phone conversation) with a local alderman about running against a State Rep that they were trying to unseat. She told me that in order for it to go any further that a certain person would have to be at a meeting that she wanted to schedule.

I always assumed that it JJ jr. that she talking about but it may have been Madigan. 7 years later this same State Rep was the guy that ran afoul of Madigan by siding with Rauner.

Madigan and the crew ran a women against him and got him bounced out.

I was wondering why there were so many assholes in Denver when I visited there a few years ago. Now I know.

I had a girlfriend from college who interned for the Illinois House (basically Madigan). Their job was to physically go around to the Madigan bloc offices every morning to hand out the daily mission. We are talking people clearly senile, or in massive debt, or otherwise desperate and totally subservient to their ruler.

Isn't a lot of Madigan's statehouse hegemony a result of being immaculately prepared, involved, and on-message while everyone else is stumbling around Springfield trying to fuck their interns? It's like how Bill Belichick is brilliant because he coaches against blithering idiots. Maybe if other legislators had marching orders, they could get shit done for good instead of evil.

Yes.

It goes beyond preparation in the state house. He also is a master of the metrics of elections and has been a key component to most of the democrats legislators actually holding their seats. While most of these fools are staffing their offices with ne'er do wells, he is hiring ambitious, REALLY SMART PEOPLE at the beginning of their careers who are working hard for their next job, which will not be in politics. You can hate his politics all you want but he earned and continues to earn the position he holds.

Royko has a chapter in Boss describing Daley I during his Springfield days and he was essentially able to rise by keeping his nose clean and focusing on learning how to govern (particularly with budgets). This may seem a simple task but Springfield in session can be bacchanalian (I have no first hand experience).
