for many of us it's complain about the city we no longer live in.

I know a lot of other people who moved away from Chicago, they never have that itch to move back.

This is approaching strawman territory.

No one has said that if you leave Chicago you'll be spending every day wishing you could somehow return. I probably won't ever end up living back in the Chicago area. That has to do with other circumstances though.

I do know plenty of people that went away for college and returned and others who moved back after living some place else too.

It's not as true as it was even when I was a kid, but Chicago is as much as a concept as a city. Some people like many aspects of Chicago culture. They identify with it. It may be bullshit to some people, but not others. I consider myself a Chicagoan almost before an American.

Having said that, staying here--and moving back to practically my old neighborhood--was probably a mistake. Sometimes sentiment and identity get in the way of good financial success.

Every time I see the parking toll boxes & red light cameras, I think of the times as a kid I remember walking past Burge's torture room on the 2nd floor rear of the old police station on 91st & Cottage Grove. And think of him getting extradited from Tampa.

You know the real insult there? Your tax dollars are paying all of those settlements. You as a Chicago resident are paying for that, not the police pension fund.

It would be nice if abuses by city workers were paid out of the appropriate pension fund, things would get cleaned up real quickly then.

Not that Omaha needs me defending it, but visiting there, I was surprised at how nice Omaha actually was. My preconception of it being a flat Salt Lake City was way off.

They have the 2nd best zoo in the country, College World Series, the Missouri River, and a nice downtown. Douchebag should take a trip there.
