Based on the entry fee I figure each cup of gatorade or water I consume will cost me a bit more than $7

good luck at the race! i have a friend running in it and i had considered making it my first full marathon, but opted for the Illinois Marathon in April. Less crowded, more affordable. Someday i will tackle Chicago. |

Illinois is a good one. After the half split it gets a little lonely but toward the end you run through some nice neighborhoods and the finish in the stadium is great. If you are planning on watching your friend have you considered volunteering? Our club does the first aid station (state and washington) so you are done early and in plenty of time to walk over to Wells to see him coming back south at mile 12. |

i thought about going downtown, but from where i live it is a day-long adventure so i decided against it. Also, this weekend is the Hennepin Hundred and i am making it a point to go out there and cheer those guy and gals on. they have a pretty high-end field this year, and some folks going for the 100-mile world record on the very flat and fast Hennepin Trail. I may hang around overnight Saturday night and lend a hand at an aid station or just to cheer people on. I REALLY want to get my first marathon out of the way this spring and then focus on trying to do the 50-mile Hennepin event next fall. what you said about the second half of the Illinois Marathon is true, not much crowd support, but to be honest i think that kind of appeals to me. I think i prefer suffering in solitude! i really have enjoyed the course the couple years i have run the relay. |
