Quote:
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Phil Hughes kept a souvenir from his forgettable 2016 season.

He stumbled to a 1-7 start, was demoted to the bullpen by the Minnesota Twins, cracked a bone in his leg when he was hit by a line drive and had season-ending surgery in July to correct thoracic outlet syndrome. He still has the rib that was removed during surgery that was causing nerve and vascular impingement in his throwing shoulder, and he might turn it into jewelry.

"I haven't decided what the next step is. I have a few ideas. Plating it with some sort of precious metal is one way to go," he said Wednesday, as the Twins started spring training workouts. "I'll figure out something to do with it before it corrodes."

That would make a pimp letter opener.

man, for the first half of.... uhh... 2009 i wanna say? yeah phil hughes was the real fucking deal for the yankees. the his 2nd half = [mean] regression to the mean and he ended up like 17-8 4.20/1.23 or whatever [even tho his first half was like 10-2 2.18/1.04 or something like that] --- but yeah, otherwise, he was supposed to be the crown jewel of the yankees system.... and now idk if i'd take him over kyle gibson-on-a-good-day

Yeah, he's been productive at times, but disappointing considering he was once the #4 prospect in baseball. His 0.69 walks per nine in 2014 was mammal sauce though.
