No matter how much you like and trust her medical team, get a second opinion. I know we did this with my mom when she was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer two years ago. At first she resisted, but eventually she felt better when the other specialist confirmed the treatment plan the original surgeon and oncologist recommended. My mom and a couple of my cousins have worked with oncologists at Rush up here in Chicago (or in their Warrenville location), and we can all vouch that they are tremendous.

You have to focus at least a little of your time on some of the basics, stuff like eating and sleeping well so you don't get sick with something. And consider getting access to somebody who specializes in assisting families with reconciling medical billing, insurance, and financial assistance.

My thoughts will continue to be with her, you, and the rest of your family.

Thanks. We have all the billing and financial crap handled with a ton of family and support from people who will climb mountains for us. So blessed. Her surgeon is one of the best in the nation and we trust the initial diagnoses. Now we attack the tumor.

I am terribly sorry. Life's little inconveniences mean nothing when one hears of news such as this. I am praying for strength for her, you, your wife and all your family and friends.

Scooter,

The last time I read this thread,I thought the news was positive for your daughter. I saw it had some updates but I was afraid to open it again.

I'm so sorry for her diagnosis but take it from somebody who knows first hand, miracles can and do happen. Stay brave and just like they say in sports: Take each challenge one day at a time.

I'm praying for your daughter.

Sorry to hear the news Scooter. Obviously not the news we all wanted to hear after initial good reports from you. I can't imagine how tough this must be. :(

I was about to post to post something in the 'Complains about' thread, but it feels stupid now. I really have no words, but my thoughts are with you and your family, Scooter. That sucks...

She has repeatedly said no Fakebook no go fund me no pity I will not accept pity. We try to explain people just want to help they do not pity you. She really is something. She told us last night do not be sad for me be sad for us when we need it. Love this girl. If she will allow me soon I will post a pic here as I told her bout the place and she is bewildered about this site. I explained it is kind of a playground that adults go to to vent and relax. Showed her a bit of it and she said Fuck That. Smart Girl

She is handling this way better than we expected. God she is strong. She knows she will lose her hair due to chemo and she is like it will grow back. And if any of you idiots shave your heads for me I will kill you before this kills me. :D  8)

Well the worst news is confirmed. Malignant cancer. Next step aggressive chemo and radiation. Going to finish this semester of school and then done for treatment. We are in shock and totally fearful of the outcome. The cancer will come back just a matter of how long it takes. Eventually it will kill her. She is only 18. Life is not fair at all. Wish I could trade places with her. My wife is like a zombie.

Man, Scooter, I'm sorry to hear this. Parents shouldn't have to go through this. Tell her to life to its fullest, leave this world with no regrets. I hope the cancer stays dormant for as long as possible so you guys have a lot of time to spend together.

No parent should have to bury a kid. I have one in the clay already that had some issues. I cannot do this again. She has told me already I will outlive you old man. I am 52 she is 19 in May. My youngest is 14 and I have an entire HS softball experience with her waiting. I plan on being around and Hollie does also so the race begins. :)

Met with radiologist today if stitches come out on April 10 as planned aggressive radiation begins on the following day. 5 days a week for 6 weeks. Chemo as well. I hate this shit. Would not wish it on anyone no matter what. We try to stay strong and positive but at times it is really tough. Glad I have this playground to be an asswipe and play on or I might lose my mind. Lots of shit going on at the job as well which does not help matters. But things are never so bad they cannot get a little worse. :?

Things had been going well until last night/this morning. Drainage started from incision at around 11 A.M. Called INI said bring her in for consult with surgeon. Admitting her now and going to do surgery tomorrow afternoon to see what is going on. Dr. hopes to go in stop drainage but if she has infection holy shit the game totally changes. Second brain surgery in a month. I do not know how much more of this I and my family can take.

I just checked in, and I'm terribly sorry to hear the situation was worse than it sounds like you originally anticipated. I'm praying they can get this setback straightened out tomorrow. She sounds like an awesome kid.
