I grew up with the Roger Moore-era Bond films.

He'll always be my personal favorite James Bond. He always seemed like a classy guy.

Worst Bond, they all suck besides Connery but Moore was the worst.

I'd go with George Lazenby being the worst.

Timothy Dalton is the closest to the feel of the novels. Daniel Craig is close as well.

I have a rare photograph of Roger Moore signed by Sean Connery. Or maybe it was the other way around....

if that's the guy who just did 1 movie i dont even count him as a bond. Dalton did not have the big name in hollywood. i see your argument where he was closest to the novels i guess. i never read one bond novel so i'll take your word for it. brosnan was a big hollywood name but had no screen presence. too bad he didnt get the role when he was doing regmington steele. it seemed like it would have been a better fit at that time.

I think he is great but had the worst story lines. It's not his fault the world was in a mini pax romana during his run as the character.

Being a huge Bond fan, here's my take on the Bond actors:

Connery: I *know* he's the best since he was the original and added so much to the character. He was also in Goldfinger...enough said.

Lazenby: A significant portion of his lines were dubbed by someone else. Had On Her Majesty's Secret Service been a Connery Bond, it might have been the best Bond film of all time.

Moore: I grew up with his Bond films. Campy, yes. Doesn't play Bond as a ruthless killer. But damn his one liners and sexual conquests great. He also was Bond the longest in terms of (official) film count. He is still my personal favorite Bond. Best film IMO: Live & Let Die

Dalton: He portrays Bond closest to the novels. Drinks away his hatred for what he has to do. Dry. He was too stark of a change in character from what Moore had been doing for the past 13 yrs. Best film IMO: License to Kill

Brosnan: Goldeneye is his best film and truly was a great way to re-debut Bond post-Cold War. Brosnan's other films were blah. To his credit, IMO, Brosnan has the best look for Bond; in both the action scenes and as a debonair agent.

Craig: The grittiest and most action packed Bond. He looks the least like Bond from the novels, but he is close to Dalton in terms of how the novel character was. Best film IMO: Casino Royale

I really liked LTK also. It was different than your usual bond movies and I've seen it argued it was the most 'American' bond movie. Well that's good then.

I never liked GE. I thought the score was terrible. It was really boring when I saw it in the theaters.

Craig I've seen his movies but I could not tell you anything from them if you asked me to remember them.

I'm more of a Connery fan but I do think that Moore was hurt by the fashions of the mid-70's. Hard to watch those films today and buy into his presumed sex appeal when he's wearing wide collars and plaid jackets.

I've been blindsided by the love I've seen this movie getting lately. I never considered it to be horrible like some of the real Moore clunkers but it also doesn't hold a candle to TSWLM or FYEO. I'd also take Octopussy over it, though I wouldn't want to make an empassioned argument doing so. LALD was fine to me but nothing I certainly would be in a hurry to rewatch unless I was doing an entire series rewatch.


I feel that movie did a lot of things right when it came to bringing Bond into a more modern time and roping in a new generation of fan, but yeah, that score is a steaming pile of dogshit. And just when you thought it couldn't get worse, Eric Serra said hold my beer and gave us that God awful closing credits song.

Only redeeming qualities of that soundtrack were the music during the tank chase and the love theme for Bond and Natalya, and I'm almost certain Serra had little to nothing to do with the former.

TSWLM has grown on me over the years. FYEO was the producers' way of bringing back some realism to the series after Moonraker. I like that one as well. But there is just something so cool about Live & Let Die. Solitaire is, arguably, one of the hottest Bond girls as well. The lack of Q and some of the other Bond tropes do hinder the film, but Moore's cool demeanor is top notch...

Great example: After he takes Solitaire's virginity (thus making her no longer a competent fortune teller), she's confused about what just happened, and Bond lies there and basically interrogates her to finding out where Katanga is. As he's about to leave, she wants him again so he gets back in bed to go at it.

Great film!

More to like about Live and Let Die:

* Less cheesy than most of the other Moore Bond films. Was it Moonraker that featured Jaws and the short blond girl with braces and pigtails? Please...
* Top notch locations: New Orleans, New York, Caribbean.
* The "7-up the uncola guy!"
* Blaxploitation!

TSWLM is my absolute favorite Bond movie, though I will readily admit it is not the best one.

The last one I watched was the second Brosnan one. No interest in Craig at all.
