It is for those adventure seeking yahoos who aren't properly trained and prepared.

Spaniard Killian Jornet, perhaps the greatest ultra runner on the planet, just broke the unofficial record for quickest north face ascent and summit of Everest, and he did it without fixed ropes or oxygen. He accomplished it in 26 hours. he has spent the last couple of years attempting to break time records on many of the world's famed climbs - Kilimanjaro, Denali, Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. The guy is an incredible athlete both climbing mountains and winning the worlds most prestigious trail running events.

I didn't think you could just run up Everest without ropes and picks and spikes and such.

Everest is a pretty safe ascent compared to the mountains JoRR and I were talking about on the last page.

I've heard the same about Kilimanjaro - it is a prestigious climb but not necessarily a super-difficult one. I've read that you can hike most of the way up that mountain. K2 has always been what i have heard referred to as the most challenging.

You should try it on a bicycle.

Found this blog article about climbing docs on Netflix. The documentary about the 2008 K2 tragedy is very good from what I've read in other places. Idk how old this article is, so maybe some of the docs have been removed by now.

4 of the 10 died this year from carbon monoxide poisoning from cooking in their tent because it was too cold out.

Should have changed the battery on the detector.

Spaulding would have as much trouble on Mt Everest as the VFW Hall.

douglas adams used to chide climbers of mt. everest and called it a "smart jog".

really, it's just treacherous and dangerous toward the top. the climbing part is pretty easy if you have enough sherpa help. you start at like the halfway point with base camp.
