we cannot control China nor can we control India. These are facts. It is pointless to try, unless we want to straight take them over.

The United States doesn't need a feel-good climate pact (that was neutered by the EU and USA because China wasn't going to join) to exert it's influence when it was has more aircraft carriers than the rest of the world combined. China can't even assert control for its own territorial waters while the US has ruled a hemisphere for a century.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Some of you are missing dolphin's point. It's not really about climate change.

The symbolism and gestures won't really get it done. And using China as an example of leadership on climate change is only for those that find critical thinking skills unimportant.

Trump should be excoriated for his lack of leadership with Saudi Arabia, the largest exporter and funder of terrorism in the world. But anyone who claims the lack of US leadership just started, paid very little attention the last 8 years when the 1980's called and wanted their foreign policy back. Or when red lines were drawn and nothing was done when other nations gleefully crossed them.

Again, it's not about climate change. It's about the place of the U.S. in the world.

Your second paragraph is obviously true, but you are likely to conjure up Bootstraps Max and/or But Obama by making such a observation. At this point it's probably best to look ahead rather than just whining about the last guy. And yeah, I know Obama did that too.

Our leadership position in the world took a HUGE hit in the previous 8 years. It just wasn't important then, but somehow it is now.

Well, now you're back to the different ways the media report/reported on respective presidents. You know where I stand on that. It's gotten me called a "Trumpet" enough times.

It's been a downward spiral of presidents, each arguably worse than the last. This is the larger problem. This is just the biggest turd at the table.

Going to Saudi Arabia was done to death before trump.
Drawing imaginary lines is all in ones imagination
Giving Iran a way to nuclear weapons isn't trying.
Trying to force democracy down the throats of Muslim nations isn't trying.
Appearances isn't trying, it's abdicating.

Love Vanguard index funds. I would not recommend any emerging markets fund. Way too volatile for most investors. On the other hand, it is smart to diversify globally outside the U.S. but stick to first world developed markets. If you decide to allocate a portion of your investments to emerging or frontier markets, definitely stay at 10% of your holdings or below.

Agreed, I should have qualified, this should be no more than a small portion of one's portfolio.

For developed markets, https://personal.vanguard.com/us/funds/ ... IntExt=INT

And to be clear this one has a portion in emerging markets too.

This deal can't be torn up for 4 years. Trump may not be president after then. Nothing to see here.
