I heard Theo compare Schwarber to Ruth and Rizzo and Kasper calling Russell a future MVP.

Not sure who "a lot of you" or "Cub fans" are. This has a Bernstein "everyone on Twitter" vibe.

I threw it out as a long shot prediction before this season. He was 6th in WAR among SS last year and 37th over all.

I wouldn't say a lock but his trajectory seems to be on track. Anything can happen but it isn't silly to think he isn't one of the best players in baseball right now.

From a defensive side, he was supposed to be the guy that makes the easy plays consistently and makes the tough plays look easy, which is why I believe Baez doesn't play short anymore. Now he has these weird moments in the field that makes you wonder about his mental state out there. On offense, he's got power and a fast bat through the zone. He had a lot of RBI's last year, but otherwise he sees a lot of pitches and strikes out too often. Misses a lot out of the zone, as you'd expect from a young hitter.

People forget how young these guys are. Was Barry Larkin really Barry Larkin at 22 or 23 like Russell is right now? I'd wager that Larkin wasn't even in MLB at 22.

I'm not saying he will become Larkin but we really have no idea how good or bad Russell will be.

Bobby Crosby was touted more than Russell. It's much more likely that Russell will end up like Crosby than Larkin. Just like it's more likely that Tim Anderson ends up as Lee Richard rather than Jimmy Rollins.
