Never would have been close to HOF until he was shipped to Texas. First 12 seasons, only had an OPS above .800 three times. Last 8 seasons? 7 times. He really turned it on when he was "past his prime years".

First ballot Hall of Famer without question. The fact that he moved around cities more than most great players hurts the profile, but that doesnt matter. He's been more than good enough to overcome that.

And I dont think the compliler label is fair since he's maintained excellence. Its not like he's hanging around hitting .250 and DHing. He's been consistently great.

Late bloomer, maybe the best defensive 3B in the post-expansion era (even better than Robinson). He will suffer for votes the way that Edgar Martinez has and Tim Rained did, but he will get in eventually.

No way, not in the same league as Arenado, Machado, Castilla, Rolen, etc.

I've never really thought of him as a HoF player either but it's hard to argue against his production.

What?

Castilla?

He's better than Machado and Castilla by far and on the same level as Arenado and Rolen. All 3 are all time greats.

His fielding is practically GOAT material
Generally speaking, third base is kind of a neutral position in terms of defensive value. It’s neither as demanding as shortstop nor as easy to pick up as first base; the role’s importance depends on the player who takes it on. And just like Baltimore Orioles great Brooks Robinson a half-century before, Beltre has turned the left side of the diamond into an impenetrable stronghold.

According to defensive runs above average,1 Beltre isn’t just the second-best fielding third baseman in modern history (trailing only Robinson), he also ranks among the game’s dozen or so most valuable fielders, period, going back to 1901:

Baseball’s best fielders

I'd say he falls into the PED discussion, but it appears they're letting those guys in now since at least two went in yesterday. If we're going to have I-Rod and Bagwell in it seems ridiculous to keep Bonds, Clemens, and even Sosa and McGwire out.

Playing in two huge pitcher parks for the first half and a huge hitters park in second half has a lot to do with it.

Rolen, ok I forgot him. Arenado, let's see how he's doing defensively at 36 and 37 years old.

Yeah, this HOF class is the beginning of the steroid class getting in. They let the nice juicers in now. Bonds and Clemens wait a couple more years and then they finally get in.
