25 yrs ago today. One of my favorite players. I remember an interview with him in Sport Magazine in which he refused to answer any of the questions.

One of my favorite Hawk best ever's. "Wimpy, you can have your John Daly's but Ive never seen a man hit a golf ball farther than Jim Rice. The man is strong."

Too bad Dan Shaughnessy was not struck by several line drives after closing the story with this:

"Rice played the remainder of the game wearing a blood-stained uniform. The box score says he was 1 for 4 with two RBIs and grounded into two double plays, but the heart says he had one of his best days ever."

The bigger story was that Dave Stapleton actually hit a ball hard enough to hurt someone.

I think he's the last non-roid guy to have 400+ total bases in a season.

Did they play after Jim Rice?

Lost in the Fisk kerfuffle re: the 1975 world series was the fact that Vern Ruhle broke Rice's hand with a pitch in a meaningless late Sept., game, thus knocking him out of the post-season. What could have been.

I know you are a mult, and the B&B did this, but they really should do a periodic cleaning of the Hall Of Fame where they send people to a Hall Of Fame, Lesser Wing. They aren't kicked out entirely, but we get guys like Mazeroski and Sutter somewhere closer to where they belong.

He put all these #'s up with his own fans calling him racial slurs. Unthinkable how difficult that must have been.

Fucking ignoramus . . . all six Sutter boys deserve a spot in the Hall of Fame--and in the good wing. This is nothing more than Alberta-bashing from a pc thug.

In all seriousness, one of the Waners doesn't belong, not to mention a few Yankees.

If I were booting guys, I'd start with looking at those old Giants and Cardinals who were friends of John McGraw. Pop Haines, High Pockets Kelly, etc.

Yes, but Gehrig was a little stiff by then.

Duane was overrated, and Rich was slow. But there's no doubt about Darryl and Brian as players. Brent was a terrific #2 center on those early 90's Hawks teams, too.
