Calling out PC culture as the death of comedy.

He is 100% correct as in all honesty, there is no way any of his movies could be made today.

Going to be honest, I thought he was dead. Glad he's not and he is very right.

Just imagine "The Producers" today. It mocks Nazis but not a single comedy watcher would even grasp the satire in the film. Heck, there have been people trying to shut down stage versions of "The Producers."

Being just old enough to get it in the middle 70s had it's benefits. Thankfully Mel and Norman Lear were in their primes.

Blazing Saddles will always be in my top 10

They had Blazing Saddles on TBS a few months ago.

They silenced out the N word.

If it was the first time you saw the movie you would not understand it.

I for sure get what that word means to many and our culture, but that word makes the whole movie and makes Bart the star of the movie.

Madeline Kahn's virtuoso supporting performance helped.

Gene Wilder should've gotten the other Best Supporting award

I remember watching that late late night show on NBC Bob Costas use to host in the 80s/90s and Mel was on there talking about Blazin Saddles.

If memory serves me right, he said there was one scene cut out that the censor's wouldnt allow. It's when Lili brings Bart back to her room and turns the lights off. Then she ohh's and aahhh's and says something like 'ITS SO BIG'. Then Bart responds 'That's my Arm your sucking'.

Never heard that one, must have been one of the lines Richard Pryor wrote.

I had a healthy love for Madeline Kahn immediately after the movie.

The sheriff role was written for Pryor. Dont remember the story why he didnt take it or wasn't offered. I think it was a missed opportunity for all involved.

He was on with Cloris Leachman on To Tell The Truth -- he seemed to be pretty good; she was a little more slow I would say.

Like the Blues Brothers, it's totally pointless trying to watch Blazing Saddles on network TV.

Blazing Saddles is still my all-time favorite comedy. Almost the entire movie is quotable.

"Somebody's gotta go back and get a shit load of dimes!"

But it's sad. With Wilder passing recently and Alex Karras dying a few years back, there really isn't anyone left alive from that movie minus Brooks. Kahn and Little both died far too young. I think Burton Gilliam, who played Lyle, might also still be alive. He had some of the best lines in the movie:

"Dock that chink a day's pay for napping on the job."

Anyone else think like me that comedy like Brooks and having Archie Bunker and George Jefferson on tv today would make things better not worse?

Adam Carolla pitched a sitcom where he'd be sort of a modern day Archie but of course they said no.

It was years ago already. Carolla is friendly with Lear. Im sure he told him about it.
