Being just old enough to get it in the middle 70s had it's benefits. Thankfully Mel and Norman Lear were in their primes.

They silenced out the N word.

I remember watching that late late night show on NBC Bob Costas use to host in the 80s/90s and Mel was on there talking about Blazin Saddles.

If memory serves me right, he said there was one scene cut out that the censor's wouldnt allow. It's when Lili brings Bart back to her room and turns the lights off. Then she ohh's and aahhh's and says something like 'ITS SO BIG'. Then Bart responds 'That's my Arm your sucking'.

The sheriff role was written for Pryor. Dont remember the story why he didnt take it or wasn't offered. I think it was a missed opportunity for all involved.

Blazing Saddles is still my all-time favorite comedy. Almost the entire movie is quotable.

"Somebody's gotta go back and get a shit load of dimes!"

But it's sad. With Wilder passing recently and Alex Karras dying a few years back, there really isn't anyone left alive from that movie minus Brooks. Kahn and Little both died far too young. I think Burton Gilliam, who played Lyle, might also still be alive. He had some of the best lines in the movie:

"Dock that chink a day's pay for napping on the job."

It was years ago already. Carolla is friendly with Lear. Im sure he told him about it.
