I remember that.

Yes.

And their sweetened Iced Tea was awesome.

How about some bacon recipes Zippy?

They used to have a grape soda that I loved (lest anyone question my racial profile) that would stain my face purple for several days after drinking.

Zippy, I will do you one better. Take some old bread and cut it up in bite size squares... toss within the bacon grease and salt a little bit. Back in the oven for 7-10 minutes, toss it once while you wait. Best croutons you've ever had. Ever.

That does sound good...unhealthy but good

It’s been a long good me since I’ve been in an Aldi. It was pretty brutal and from reports the one or two (not sure the other is still open) near me are still crappy.

Pepperidge Farms and I both remember when Jewel had the generic beans. We used to drink the various pops with the genetic labeling until we graduated to Jewel Brand stuff a touch later for team functions st end of seasons.

I do remember those. My parents bought some of them.

Over the course of the last several years Aldi has done a very good job of redesigning the packaging of their products. They don't look nearly as downmarket as they used to.

Gotta love generic TANG!!

Our Aldi is part of SWMBO's regular shopping, still some great deals and we prefer the taste/quality of some of their items to national brands. She sent me the other night as it is near our Farm/Fleet store where I was headed, list of four items (milk, eggs, coffee creamer and apple juice), I spent $38 of the $40 grocery money she sent with me on those plus a bunch of stuff I wanted (never shop hungry). And the place was packed at 7pm on Sunday night.

We usually stick to name brands. Your poor so you try to convince yourself the generic shit is high quality. Go get a second job so you can afford what upper middle class enjoys, fucking peasants!

Clancy's cheddar & sour cream chips are awesome.

Flirty Bird Red Blend is a steal at $3.99.

only gripe i have is the olde-fashioned way they do check out lines. you go in to get 2 things, and there's one guy at a counter, and a line of like 10 people doing their week's shopping. no thanks.

also, you have to pay a quarter to get a cart. that's weird.

Aldi has some pretty decent wine. Their pork tenderloins are perfect for just two people. My wife swears by their Greek yogurts and guacamole. Milk, eggs, and coffee cream are also Aldi staples found in our house.

Their $4.99 Take n Bake pizza is the best take & bake that you will find, and its better than MANY frozen pizza brands. We like to doctor ours up with a little bit of onion, garlic, and green pepper.

Agree with Hank that the produce can be pretty bad but things like onions, potatoes, apples, etc are just fine. I actually prefer some of their junk food snacks to name brand. Jay's trumps all, but I would take Clancy's chips over Lays, Vitners, or just about anyone else.

That isn't totally accurate -- it is a deposit. You get it back if you return the cart. I would just leave it in the parking lot though so some seven year old kid can get super excited about getting a quarter. :)

If I was a homeless guy, I would set up shop in the Aldi parking lot. Just go around offering to return people's carts.

This is a thing already. It’s quite annoying actually. I only keep one quarter in the car so Im not giving my quarter up without a fight.
