My position is that you can deny service because you don't like the political job of a person. Political party is not a protected class. I had similar thoughts on Kevin McHale though he obviously is far less involved in MAGA.

And who determines what is religious vs what is political? You? And what's to stop the baker from just saying he's doing it because of political beliefs?

No one is arguing that firing McHale should be illegal... we are saying it's wrong to do and is an awful precedent.

Protected classes are a thing. I'm not going to argue about one is or isn't like it's an abstract term.

The baker could deny service based on politics but they better be consistent with the policy to deny service to a non protected class.

I don't think McHale should be fired but it's the free market and his politics aren't protected.

Spitting in food is disgusting and should only be done when the person is being rude as fuck to the server or is a Cubs fan.

I think it's fair to characterize some people's opinions on Sanders and Trump as more than disagreeing with politics though. I don't fault people for having pretty visceral reactions to the immigration stories recently.

Who is policing the baker? Is he going to be fined if he accidentally serves someone who he disagrees with politically after turning someone away previously? Why are you in favor of regulating every decision in our lives? And who gets to be the moral arbiter of all these unrealistic laws?

My argument is clear. Political job is not a protected class. You can deny service based on that. If he instead said she can't eat there because she was a woman then it would not be acceptable.

This is roughly the same answer I have about the Jewish baker and a Nazi. Nazis aren't a protected class. You can deny a Nazi because of that. That's why we have protected classes.

That's politics. Politics isn't always pretty, but it's politics. It's hard to get straight info, but from what I've read and listened to, there was a combination of events that led to the kids' separation. The government has actually been sued for keeping children with the families because kids can't be forced to go to hearings. So when they separate the kids, now we are the bad guys again. I've heard that it's likely Trump's EO will be challenged again in court by the same people who are complaining about the separation.

I'm no expert, so some of that might be wrong. But I think it's pretty clear it's not as simple as just letting the kids out. Of course no one likes to see kids suffer, but it's just not that simple. The kids have to go somewhere, and people will be outraged either way. There is no perfect solution.

You can say I'm being mean to you or whatever you want, but this is why I sometimes get frustrated. You act appalled any time anyone says anything that is remotely non-status quo. You basically said yesterday that gay marriage is morally acceptable now because it is legal. Do you realize how ridiculous that is?

This is another example. I have no problem with protected classes for employment, but you could absolutely make arguments that they promote unfairness. I don't really care one way or the other, and I don't want to see people discriminated against for employment. I also don't want to see people discriminated against when purchasing goods, but it's not important enough to involve the government. People don't have a right to a cake. People are mean. That is life. I don't need the government Gods coming in and telling everyone what is acceptable. And I respect your opinion that they should (though I disagree), but what gets me is your absolute befuddlement when anyone suggests that there are laws that we don't need or are harmful. Life is not rainbows and sunshine, and it never will be.
