He's right, Polish Paczki day was Thursday. Today is Fasnacht Day, the night before lent. People would make them to help use up the products they would abstain from during lent.

I'm hoping it's also hump day!

Yep, born in Poland, did a Post Doc at Texas A&M (she's a PhD polymer chemist) and has been here ever since. Has been back many times to visit family. She got her US citizenship two years ago.

They only celebrate Fat Thursday in Poland, not Fat Tuesday. My friend never heard of Fat Tuesday until she came here. Today I asked her if she had her paczkis and she asked me, "Why would I?" and it started a conversation about Fat Thursday versus Fat Tuesday. She did have them last Thursday.

How could I ever put into words a feast day before the start of a 40 day fast that is practiced in some form on at least three continents.
