These are very nice renderings released to "Redefine the Drive" of the projected improvements to the bland lake shore drive. Looks like it could turn the lake into a similar destination as the river walk has done to downtown Chicago.

The pictures are great, and anything that can be done to utilize the Lakefront as public park space per Burnham's plan should be applauded. However, I think there are greater infrastructure improvements that Chicago can and should make with such money.

Pay for college tuition for everyone that makes less than $250k/yr. Then doze the entire south side and fill it in with dirt to make a ski hill because the first plan didn't work.

For all the money spent on Millennium Park and The River Walk, they have turned into Crown Jewels for the city. Chicago has this beautiful preserved lake front that should be utilized to further enhance the greatness of the city.

These things are economic engines.

True, but I believe both had a heavy private investment which allowed them to come to fruition. Just like the flowers in the medians on north Michigan Avenue. Allegedly. Plus I'd much prefer to have a more private public partnership in that area given the costs.

And inefficiency of the drones on N. LaSalle St.

Anytime you can bring in private money, I support that.

Millennium Park and The Riverwalk are two separate projects that were funded in different ways.

Millennium Park, located in downtown Chicago, was funded by a combination of public and private funds. The majority of the funding came from private donations, including a $270 million donation from philanthropist Jay Pritzker and his wife Cindy. The city of Chicago also contributed funding, and the project received additional support from the state of Illinois and the federal government.

The Riverwalk, also located in downtown Chicago, was funded primarily by the city of Chicago. The project was funded through a combination of public funds, including tax increment financing (TIF) dollars, and private investments. The city also received a $98 million loan from the U.S. Department of Transportation to help fund the project.

Overall, both projects required a significant amount of funding and support from various sources to make them a reality.

I'd hardly call the existing lakefront situation bland. It can always be better.

Apparently we need trees and instead of walking under LSD, we need to walk over. Final cost...S1.7 trillion

Yep. Nice idea, but there should be much higher priorities.

Denis point is valid, but still....this will cost a fortune and there's more important areas to be addressed.

Too many trees. Not enough lanes for cars.

I thought this was going to be about SHARK's beloved 97.1 FM, The Drive being reformatted to modern country or acid jazz or something.

Lake Shore Drive from downtown to Hollywood might be the only pleasurable driving experience in the entire city.
