that's awesome. He tried to bait you to get in the muck with him but when you didn't he simmered down a bit and provided somewhat of an actual response and not just juvenile barbs about sexing your wife or mother. Although probably a bit disappointing that you didn't get the your mother's a whore response.
Maybe he saves that for the one-off shots against people he susses out to be there to troll him.

Could also be partly the diff between twitter in the Trump-in-office years and twitter now under Musk. But Simon even back then relies on his uber-lib creds and HBO dollars to insulate him from concern about what he says on there.

Kinda strange that he's been at it this long; I thought maybe he was going off-the-rails recently, but, nope, he's always been one to throw his feces at gawkers and feed the trolls on twitter. You should've invited him to the politics section here. We could've used a replacement for Whistler.

He also had the benefit of constructing his thoughts and putting them to paper. Unless there’s public debates of him roasting in a live debate, one can only speculate. But I think we’ve seen plenty of proof during the social media era that even the cleverest person can be reduced to idiocy. Twain fortunately never has to worry about that. Ditto Douglas Adams.
