Garcia will never be the player Nick Swisher has been

I hate Swisher but I think he gets highly underestimated. The guy has been a versatile player who plays good defense, hits for power and gets on base. He's a five tool guy. I would accept his career from any of the players in either of the Chicago farm systems.

If you look at De Aza stats, they really are pretty nice for a CF but the stats are lying.

Swisher gets a bad rap here because Ozzie had him hitting in the wrong spot in the lineup, and he was playing out of position. I'd be fine if Garcia matches Swisher's career (with a better BA)

Just doing the JORR thing of taking a hated/disliked but good player and comparing him to prospects. You'll catch some reflexive denials, but of course you'll take Swisher's career from ANY of these guys.

The difference is, I'll be more than happy if Eaton puts up David DeJesus numbers. Most Cub fans think of DeJesus as just some dope who really isn't fit to start for the historic Cub franchise. Okay, you're an exception, but for most Cub fans, if Kris Bryant is anything less than Chipper Jones, the disappointment will be palpable.

You have to remember, Swisher has had one single bad season and it happened in a Sox uniform. I find that the views of many Sox fans are colored by that fact. I don't think Swisher is special as a first baseman, but if he were playing an outfield corner, he's easily one of the ten best AL outfielders.

This is a really silly comparison of the GM's. Theo and Jed are building an organization from the ground up, that is aimed at sustained success. They want to have an Atlanta Braves type organization that will contend year in/year out. The Sox are doing a quick-fix, patchwork job. It may help them to reach .500 this season and be in contention long enough to sell more tickets in 2014 than they did in 2013, but this team will not be a true contender. the Cubs are doing it the right way and Hahn is doing it the way he has to. They can't afford to do it the way the Cubs have, their fans would not support that team as Cub fans have supported their team. So the patchwork job is all they can really do.

The Cubs haven't built shit. Even agents are down at the Winter Meetings laughing at them. And Ricketts and Theo are mumbling and bumbling. What is it now? 2017? 2020? The agents are laughing and criticizing the Cubs because they don't like teams to follow such a smart business model. They like teams like the Dodgers that spend like crazy to contend. Teams that build through the farm system hurt the agents. Not only have the Cubs not spent much on free agency, but they fail to drive up the prices on free agents other teams sign, by not bidding on them at all. Bryant, Soler, Baez, Edwards, Alcantara and Almora are just the start. Some will get to the big leagues this season. More will make it in 2015, when we will see things turm in a very positive direction. From there it will only continue and Championships will result from a long-term solution to the problem that works, rather than a quick-fix, patchwork job that doesn't.

No they don't and neither do mediocre players. Signing/trading for, guys like the Sox are aquiring will not get it done. You need to get top rated young players through the draft/international market and develop them, or sign top notch high priced free agents. The Sox are doing neither with these moves. Instead, they are getting 2nd tier guys who will give them 2nd tier production. It's just a quick-fix mentality, designed to make the team just good enough to be respectable and sell more tickets than they could with a rebuilding ballclub. It also means they get a worse draft pick, because they will have a mediocre team in 2014, rather than a truely bad team. It's the worst kind of plan to have.
