I can't really complain. I have a laundry basket full of generic pink sweetener at home. I sneak it out incrementally, like Andy Dufrense in "The Shawshank Redemption."

That is a fair point. However, it does have a few differences. The first being that the elites really couldn't get away with an executive dress code that is less strict. They also may be dealing with customers more often, which seems to be the last line of "You have to dress like Don Draper" because that customer demands that you look a certain way.

Well, that lets my company off the hook as we have customers popping in and they walk thru the whole office. So even, Goggles in the back with the other accounting nerds need to dress up.

It's a little different when someone who is making sure that payroll gets sent to the processor is told what to wear. It has to do with how workplaces were pretty much designed to put workers in a certain mindset and control them during the hours they are there to work.

Im gonna sound like Scorehead here, but I dont think that's necessarily a bad thing. You should have some control over those you pay.

There is a fair amount of subtle soul crushing and turning people into drones when it comes to the American workplace. Forcing them to be in uncomfortable clothes is just one way to help accomplish that. That is why the concept of casual Friday is so funny. On Friday, we can somehow accomplish the goals for the day while not wearing a shirt and tie or a sportcoat! However, the business could not survive if we let people do that on Thursday. Thank you executives! I only have to spend 4/5 days of the week wearing uncomfortable clothing that I can't wait to change out of when I get home! I'm sure my productivity wearing a tie goes up by 7.2% though!

I never really got on board with casual fridays.

I agree with you there. Its either a job that requires professional dress or its not.

Ill tell you what. I never really feel bad for guys in shirts and ties or suits. I feel pretty terrible for teh ridiculous costumes people are made to wear in other industries though. The movie theater that forces the workers to wear a fucking bowtie comes to mind. Or the fast food worker in a tie.

I had to wear a tie when I bagged groceries at da Jewels when I was 16.

I think the expectations of customers are changing though. Hopefully the days are ending where a customer cancels a multimillion dollar deal because they saw a guy in khakis in the break room when they are getting the tour. HOW CAN WE DO BUSINESS WITH A COMPANY LIKE THAT!

Workers, in general, keep on getting screwed. They'll still have control if they allow them to be more comfortable.

Fair enough.

I dont really mind either way. Im not gonna take my business elsewhere if my banker wears a polo, but I dont mind wearing a tie either.

I agree, but I do need my bank teller to say hello to me.

See now THAT is ridiculous. I bagged there for a summer and blue polos worked well enough.

I just hate the clown dress. The movie theater is the worst. Its like they're imitating well dressed people.

Mariano's make everyone dress up in shirt and tie. It's just stupid. Plus the kids they have bagging don't know what the fuck they are doing. When did bagging groceries become a lost skill?

I usually do it myself, because I don't wan't anything to get crushed. Almost every time I let the clerk bag the groceries, something soft is smashed. When I load my groceries on the conveyor belt, I put the heavy items on first, so they get bagged together. It's amazing that they can still screw it up.

Your claim really doesn't make much sense.

Self checkout lanes now prevent employees from correctly bagging groceries?

It may be because prices already factor in things like cashiers and other associates getting paid to do that stuff for you.

I bagged groceries for a couple years in high school. People are the worst. They'll put a jug of bleach on the conveyor belt next to a pound of ground chuck... I also had a problem with people asking for double bagged paper and complaining that I was packing the bags too heavy. Why ask for double bags if you dont want to maximize efficiency? Or how about when you carry 25 bags of groceries out to someone's car and they tell you to put them in the truck and it's full of shit already. C'mon people!!!! We are trying to run a society here!!

I took pride in my bagging, never had one complaint of smashed bread or eggs etc.

Sure, but I'm not going home with smashed bread and fruit, just so I can take a moral stand.

If half of a loaf of bread is flat, or an egg is broken, absolutely.

Bag it separately or put it in plastic.

What do you like done with yours?

At some point, we were cut from the same cloth. Both of us already feel that Moises Sierra is going to be overused the way Guillen did with guys like Alex Cintron, Andy Gonzales, Mark Kotsay, and Rob Mackowiak, and the only place in the world that either of us drink MGD is at U.S. Cellular Field.

Thanks for the beer last night dude!
