He'll probably run into David Ortiz in St Louis

Is his boyfriend a gold digger?
He may have fallen quickly in the draft, but he basically can't be cut by the Rams. He at least makes the practice squad.

The Rams could easily cut him without a backlash.

Have you not seen the media attention this weekend? You think it will be ignored if he gets cut and never plays in the NFL?

I don't think the Rams have to feel obligated to keep a 7th rounder who plays a position where they are already very deep and talented at.

I think you underestimate the story here. This is bigger than Jason Collins and that got a ton of attention.

It will either be a big story when he plays in his first game, or when he is cut. It already was a pretty big story which is rare for 7th round picks.

For Chrissakes Drudge had it as a main headline waiting to get drafted. STL is fucked PR wise when they cut him.

Maybe. I know it's a big story but I still don't think that equates to the Rams being obligated to keep him on the team. Anyone attempting to criticize them would look like a dumbass.

they were the only team willing to pick him. how can you criticize them if he's not good enough to make the team?

I don't know that all this discussion of Millsy is warranted.

Rams are totally fucked if the cut him. Lawsuits will be coming in from all directions. That is also part of the reason he was drafted. If he wasn't drafted there would be some GLAD groups filing lawsuits against the NFL for discrimination. My guess is they had a confrence call and had a Lotto among the teams, loser had to draft him.

Maybe Millsy is just not a combine guy. Maybe he makes the team or practice squad on talent

That isn't totally the point. This is a league issue. It will be a big story if a guy who was the best defensive player in the best conference in the country last year can't even make an NFL practice squad. It will also be a big story if he actually does play in a game. It's just a big story, and if the Rams are to cut him that becomes the story. They know this and so does the league.

Do you guys honestly think that if Mills is cut by the Rams and falls out of football it won't be national news? We just live in a time where being an openly gay athlete isn't yet fully accepted. I guarantee you he makes the practice squad at least.

"NFL cuts first openly gay player in training camp" is not a story they want.

Unless, some guy other guy on the Rams comes out, then they're safe to cut Mills.

But he's probably good enough to make the team

so from here on out all a guy needs to do to guarantee a roster spot is claim he's gay?

No. Where do you even come up with that?

Also, keep in mind the NFL has to be very scared of the media taking a longer look at the history of how accepting they've been. All it would take is for Kerry Rhodes to share his "story" and it is a PR nightmare for them. He was almost certainly blacklisted from the league simply for there being rumors that he was gay.

No, that's ridiculous.

He has to prove he's gay

I think we have a good idea what Shea Mac's next offseason "transformation" will be.

No doubt. That little post-pick video really raised the bar.
