I just heard a clip of the interview, and Hub COMPLETELY FUCKING EMBARRASSED himself. There was another occasion in addition to the one above where he said something, got called on it, then said he didn't say it when he just said it seconds before.

Ridiculous.

so yes, I think being an NFL player is much easier if you have the talent compared to a guy busting his ass at 2 jobs to support his family in a small apartement
...and yet at the age of 45 the regional sales manager likely has a higher quality of life.

32 players on the bears take home roughly between 250k and 500k. Some of those might only play a year or 2.

Very few of them have this kind of money. Remember, at the very start they lose 60% of their pay to the government and agents. To even live without working for your whole life you need about $10 million in the bank meaning they'd have to make $24 million in a career.

That lifestyle goes very fast. So many players are broke because of it. You could put yourself into bankruptcy too if you wanted.

Playing in the NFL is not all the glory Hub makes it out to be. Fact is if Hub played one down he would be on the IR for life...and this was in his 20's...when he "played"

If you can make it through your first contract, the rewards (Min Vet Salary) and pension make life much better

I read the thread, tuned in hoping to hear a replay of the interview, and they played a clip coming out of a break.

No podcast? Was pretty good.

Hub always demeans others with his alleged knowledge that a simple listener couldn't begin to match, but when a guy who just played for 16 years calls him out, he mumbles, stumbles and bumbles to the point whewre he doesnt even know what he just spoke 5 seconds earlier.

Big points for the rookie! And I like that PatMan didnt even let Spieges know it was coming!

The Mannelly and Wanny additions to The Score have been tremendous. Maybe Wanny can fill in for Grimeat one day with PatMan. That would be a good listen.

Agreed, Hub embarrassed himself today.

Jesus, what is it about Hub that causes him to cave to a career special-teamer who played 6-10 plays per game--at most--for years. Saddened and disappointed by the earring, skunkish goatee and Haray Caray glasses.

Hub got the "where'd you play your ball" from Mannelly.

He took the 50000 watt blowtorch to Herb.

Reminded me of that post game news conference after another Cubs lost when Lou Piniella asked George Castle, "What kind of baseball do you play?" Something like that... Castle was speechless. Not sure what he asked but Lou took offense and shut him up.

I was wrong to doubt Mitch Rosen.

The guy is an easy listen and enjoyable. I forgot he does pregame with Hub.

I'll just keep an eye on the clock to see when The Score conditions him to start mailing it in.

What is nice is that whether Hub or Bernsie he does not care about any pecking order. He says what he wants to say. I am not sure if he will be great after football season but I would bet yes.

I only hope that Laurence takes him under his wing to show him what it takes to be a professional broadcaster.
