Other than Duke not even making the tournament, this was the best ending for Coach K.

He is a pompous ass who is just as much an asshole as his mentor Bobby Knight, although Knight was more honest in his assholedom.

Funny thing to be proud of…but it’s IU so I guess being associated with the number 1 a-hole is better than nothing.

Yeah, what’s not to understand? The guy is a raging DB who somehow got a pass on it from the fawning media. Let’s not pretend he’s really a good guy who’s just been misunderstood.

No doubt Knight was a #1 asshole. But that does not change what I said. He is the greatest basketball mind to have coached college basketball.

It is one of the things I love about sports- heroes and villains. Sometimes the best players and coaches are completely unlikeable. The fans of their team still love them while everyone else roots against them. It makes for the drama we all crave in match ups.

Rodman
Brady
Bonds

Are my best examples.

People are pretty far removed from the situation. You don't hear 1/10 the "stuff" about Krzyezewski you saw with Knight. Off the court, he has a tight knit and loving family. Very few of his players have an unkind word for him and he has never been accused of assault.

With the portal, it really is becoming more and more like fantasy basketball, where coaches can draft a new team every season. Saw a tweet this morning that there are currently 1,025 D1 BBall players in the portal. There are 358 D1 Bball teams.

They have gone way too far with the portal. The portal is a good idea in theory but they need to adjust some things with it. Everyone should not be able to just jump in and out of the portal whenever the mood strikes them.

I do agree, but the one thing I like is the parity that it has created.

Yep no issue at all, the program is about to get crushed. Good for the kids getting out.

Who are the successors to Krzyzewski and Knight, the coaches that everybody else besides their own fans loves to hate? Juwan Howard punching other teams coaches is a good start; but I don't think Howard has the fahr and pashun to elevate his heel game to the level of Coach K or Coach Knight. College coaches now all seem like mild-mannered tacticians on the Brad Stevens-Jay Wright model. Izzo could pick up the mantle left behind by K retiring--if he could get his teams out of the 2nd round of the tourney.

Bruce Pearl and what'shisname at Syracuse immediately jump to mind.
