I had no recollection of Randy Breuer being 7'3".

No idea he was that tall. You never see those really tall guys anymore like him or Eaton. Weird.

Great win today.

Groce is doing work this year.

I'm torn on whether I want Rice and Cosby to come back.

Groce has continued to coach his ass off and get some production from the guys who want to be there.
Big game tonight against Michigan. I watched SportsCenter this morning and somehow they had the
Illini as one of the last 4 in the NCAA tournament. Looking at remaining schedule they still have a
relatively good shot at 20 wins as they sit with 16 now and have had a pretty strong SOS at 51.
No idea if the two chuckleheads will be back in the lineup tonight.

Thu, Feb 12 vs Michigan

Sun, Feb 15 @#5 Wisconsin

Sun, Feb 22 vsMichigan St

Wed, Feb 25 @Iowa

Sat, Feb 28 vsNorthwestern

Wed, Mar 4 vsNebraska

Sat, Mar 7 @Purdue

If they lose this game, the season is over.

Sweet 21-0 run to finish that game out.

Too many possessions where the ball never got below the foul line though.

Yeah, that was a tough one to watch for the first 30 minutes or so. I give them credit that they never packed it in and gave up.
Really lacking some beef down low even just to kick it in to collapse the defense before pushing it back out for a more open shot.
They play some pretty intense defense and that kept them in it. Very young team with some nice pieces going forward. Rice
finally turned it on the last 6 minutes of the game or so but it was nice to see him not throw up all kinds of shots and forcing it,
eventually he will find the touch. He had a number of steals and rebounds that were crucial. I have been on Egwu a lot in the
past but he has developed into a nice big and a shot blocking presence. Still questionable shooting but some good rebounding
and laid off the silly fouls. Nunn and Hill are going to be studs if they keep working at it. It was fun watching the coaches go at
it tactically on the inbounds plays and such. I really enjoy Big Ten basketball right now. Might tune into the game in Madison
to see how they respond. If they can keep it to a single digit loss I would look at that as a moral victory. Kaminsky is an animal
and impossible to guard but will be fun to see Egwu try to take him on.

need to win one of these next two

A loss at Wisconsin shouldn't hurt their RPI and might actually help it. A loss at home to MSU is going to put them back into that last four out group. Win those 5 games and this is a nice season

They definitely need to win the rest of their home games. @ Purdue and @ Iowa are going to be pretty tough but winnable.

Just be careful of the guy in Iowa that likes to gouge your players eyes out.

Kaminsky travels half the time he goes to the hoop. These goofs are rooting for Wisconsin the way Hawk roots for the Sox.

No doubt. That doesn't mean he's earned the right to take four steps to the basket.

Well, that was pretty predictable although I thought the Illini would keep it within a dozen. Game of the season for them against Michigan State at home next Sunday.

A lot of things would have to happen for them to ever beat Wisconsin. But I'll say this- I think this team is actually worse with Rice. They play differently with him on the floor and he takes a lot of bad shots. His mere presence means Hill and especially Black are going to be less involved offensively.

I never thought I would agree with this but they really looked better as a team with Rice out. Groce has a week to form this into a cohesive unit for the last run.

Cosby left the team today officially.

Coach John Groce said through a statement that the team and Cosby have mutually decided to part ways.

Cosby transferred to Illinois last season from Seton Hall and played this first 19 games of this season after sitting out due to transfer rules last season.

He missed two games with an eye injury before Groce declared Cosby suspended indefinitely along with Rayvonte Rice on Jan. 31. Rice was reinstated on Feb. 12 against Michigan.

"It made sense for us to part ways," Groce said. "We're going to do nothing but support him and help him."

Cosby will remain enrolled in spring semester classes and intends to earn his degree before transferring with another season of eligibility.

He struggled shooting at Illinois, averaging 7.8 points on 29.3 percent shooting.

It wasn't much of a game last night for the Illini. NCAA hopes on life support. They need to win the final 3
and then win a few in the conference tournament. I'm not seeing it.

Illinois vs Michigan at noon for the Big Ten Tourney opener. Lucky winner gets Wisconsin in the next round. This could be the end of the road for this
Illini squad today. They'll likely accept a bid to the NIT but no one cares about that. Would be nice to see them get to play Wisky and give them some
kind of run but I just don't see it. Groce has done a pretty good job with this team with the injuries and suspensions. Will be a totally different team
with no Egwu and Rice. I hope he lures some size to the lineup for next year. They have some talent there for the next few years.

Assuming they miss the tournament, how long will it take for Groce's seat to get pretty hot?

People seemed to never be happy with Bruce Weber, but he did a much better job than Groce has so far.

Last summer he signed a contract extension through 2019 so I don't think it is going to get real hot but if he misses
the tournament again next season I believe the whispers will start. He has a top 15 recruiting class coming in this
fall.
