But he is making a ton of money with the Thunder

"Only" $5MM . I presume the Hoosiers and the frustrated fans have to be able to exceed that to attempt to match their belief that IU is still a preeminent program. At least I hope they will

Didn't IU hire a search firm? Never a good sign. Will end up with some turd based on risk analysis.

Search firms are not really used to do the actual search but to make sure all thr the details of the contract and such are handled correctly.

Not this time around. He is someone that could be in the future. Rumors are he is in talks to be head coach at Duquene.

Oklahoma City Thunder coach Billy Donovan was in Bloomington today to meet with Indiana regarding its open coaching position, multiple sources told me this afternoon.

Donovan flew into Monroe County Airport on a Cessna Citation jet with his wife and two other men, the sources said. The Thunder are off until Sunday when they visit the Houston Rockets in a nationally-televised game.




Donovan was back in Oklahoma City in time for Thunder practice this afternoon.

Donovan led Florida to back-to-back national championships in 2006 and 2007 and has reached four Final Fours and seven Elite Eights in his career. He’s in his second year with the Thunder, a job he took for the opportunity to coach both Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. Durant departed to join the Golden State Warriors over the summer.

Donovan has a 5-year, $30-million deal with the Thunder, so the Hoosiers would certainly have to pay up to pry him away. But I’m told money is not an issue for Indiana athletic director Fred Glass if he can get the guy he wants.

ESPN asked Steve Alford about the Indiana job and this was his response:

"I am absolutely 100 percent not going to Indiana. Staying at UCLA. I am happy. Love it here. Have a great class coming in, and brand-new practice facility. Obviously, I love my alma mater. Committed to UCLA. I am not going to talk to Indiana. I am staying a Bruin."

If he's anything like his brother I'd run very fast in the other direction.

Probably better off keeping Crean but I understand how the Indianapolis alums get about not making the Final Four. At least its not Alford.

Looks to be official with a press conf on Monday.

Not the best hire IMO. But he is WAY better than Alford. I was hopeful that the Donovan rumors were true, but could never buy into them. I would rather have had Marshall or Bennett.

Why is that?

Definitely is more and more talk about Donovan. Even was talked about on ESPN today.

My preferences are

1. B Donovan -- far and away the best choice if he will come -- still dont believe he will but would love to be wrong

2. G Marshall -- even with his crazy ass wife.

3. T Bennett
