Booger McFarland has consistently made a fool out of himself during all the coverage of this.

His name is booger.

He had a pretty low bar to start with.

UCF wasn't getting in.

Not sure how you let a team who didn't win it's conference and lost its last game in but whatever.

My biased belief is that they made the right choice.

New Year's day, any of these teams can win the title which you want, should be a good day.

Exactly. Alabama's best win was over a team that got beat by Troy

But it's nice to know that Urban took it in the moon thanks to Iowa

Yeah watching what Delaney does is the best part about the conference getting left out for 2 teams from a a down year SEC.

Ohio State set the precedent last year by them over a conference champion, I'm just amused that they got bitten by the same thing (and a 31 point loss to Iowa) this year. It is funny to me that my tOSU friends have been screaming for the past 12 hours that only conference champions should be considered....

8 Team playoff makes some sense, 16 teams makes more.

I said it before but I really don't think this is much of a parallel at all to last year. Ohio State getting in last year screwed over their own conference champion, not another conference's, and that team was much better regarded than Alabama was this year. Alabama this year is a lot more like the 2015 OSU team that got left out.

A 16 team playoff would be a joke and would require significantly overhauling and also devaluing the regular season.

It may not be a parallel but last year set the precedent for it. They should have gone with conference champions only, but once they decided to skip over a conference champion (one that beat the team that made the playoff, iirc) then you can do it again with less trepidation. Ohio State can only blame themselves for losing to Iowa by 31.

And this is exactly why I'm becoming less and less enamored with the playoffs

Oh I have no problem with OSU getting left out, I just think the case for Alabama getting in is extremely weak. They have no case whatsoever on quality wins compared to Ohio State, and if it's about losses, I don't see how UCF and even Wisconsin aren't more deserving.

16 teams would work. They do 32 at D3, they can do 16 at D1.
all 11 conference champions and 5 at large bids. That would be everyone in the top ten, and the possibility of a Cinderella or two.

There's no way the power 5 conferences ever even entertain the possibility of letting the MAC, Mountain West, etc have automatic bids.

The power conferences very likely make less money with an expanded playoff that guarantees spots to non-power conference teams though. They all make far more from college football than college basketball despite the ostensibly more meritocratic and inclusive playoff of the latter.

8 team playoff. Power five conference winners are in. 3 at large teams. Done.
