Notre Dame usually plays a pretty tough schedule with teams like Michigan, USC, Stanford and Michigan state. It happened to be a down year for 3 of those programs but its not like they purposely have an easy schedule.

and people hold ND to a different standard. I see very little mocking of Alabama today like the day after ND lost to the same team by 1 LESS point.

Notre Dame beat Syracuse by 29 more points than Clemson did, so in a way the ND season series with Clemson is tied.

Plus, Alabama has only won 5 of the past ten national championships. So they're pretty big failures, too.

This may be a crazy thought, but Alabama may be getting a pass for getting blown out and Notre Dame isn't because Alabama has 5 national titles since 2009.

Coaching has to play some role in that. Good ND coach = good teams. Faust, Weis, Davie, Kelly....at least Kelly has had some good teams, but he's still a jackass who can't even compete in the biggest games.

I know ND complains about its academic standards and that until a generation ago the SEC played a lot of academically uninspiring student-athletes, but their standards aren't as high as some other D-I schools. If I am not mistaken, you have to get good grades to play at ND, though. So maybe they lose a few athletes, but get a good coach in there, and they'll be fine. Holtz could have won three if it weren't for two stupid losses, and they could beat anyone while he was there.

I still think you'll see Urban Meyer there.

I don't feel like Notre Dame is a destination school for any elite coach.

Notre Dame is not close to the powerhouse Notre Dame of the 60s, 70s and 80s for sure.

But they are not a mid major either. People saying they should be treated the same as UCF are insane.

Just judge them on their schedule. It's usually pretty tough.
