That’d explain the statement. Most don’t complement someone as a ‘disciplinarian’ in the context of building a good college team these days.

Yeah I would imagine someone helped him with this statement. But I doubt it was that hard, Woodson was always one of his favorite guys.

Tough to expect a football school to hit a home run when hiring a coach for their basketball program.

I never said they only leave for money. Money is the most important factor though.

St. Johns isn't a high paying job so this point doesn't make sense.

Yes, and I'm simply explaining why those guys are so rare they are virtually non-existent. It seems like you are now saying that you think it's incredibly likely that Moser jumps to a bigger job with much bigger money when offered.

Loyola offered to take him up to 2.2 million for 10 years and he still took the bigger offer. Also, Cubs season tickets.

I guess he isn't the rare one to stay and make a lot less money.

Porter Moser going to Oklahoma makes Indiana look really bad. Either they didn't go after him which is inexcusable or they offered and he decided Oklahoma was a better program/job which also makes Indiana look like crap.

Blue blood my ass.

Get that crap out of here.

Whether IU looks bad or not has nothing at all to do with Porter Moser.

The timing of Woodson happened pretty much right after Loyola went out. Loyola loses on Saturday and IU hires Woodson on Sunday.

That said, the IU job is pretty unique. It wouldn't be surprising if Moser didn't want to deal with the ghost of Bobby Knight when another option paying just as much wanted him.

Where would you rank IU amongst Big 10 programs? I think you would at least have to put it behind Michigan, Michigan St., and Ohio St. 30 years ago, it was arguably number one, and if it wasn't number one, it was probably number two.

Don't misunderstand me. I am not saying IU is a blue blood and some elite program right now.

They would be behind those programs and probably Iowa Wisconsin and Purdue.

But them not going after Porter Moser does not speak to that situation at all. Moser made the tournament like 2 times in 15 years. And as gd pointed out he was one year away from being upset in his conference tournament as the 1 seed.

Moser is a nice coach and might do well at OU, but IU not going after him does not speak at all to their issues.

I find your decision to stop arguing confusing.

I am a little bit surprised he went to Oklahoma. It seems like somewhat of a strange fit.

Yeah, that's why he'll probably won't make it through his first contract at OU.

Guys that say at mid majors for a long time aren't as rare as you think.

Bob McKillop, Mark Few, Randy Bennett, Rick Byrd, Matt Painter, etc. Those guys are out there if you look hard enough.

Reports out that Dane Fife will be an assistant coach for IU now.

So Indiana went all in to try and get Brad Stevens, offered 70 million over 7 years. I am glad to know that is true and they tried for the homerun.

The way things are going for the Celtics this season he may end up regretting that he turned that offer down.

Stevens not taking that is insane, he is probably making 6 or 7 now in Boston and NCAA schedule is less than half the games.

NBA coaches work 8 months out of the year. College coaches work 12 months out of the year.

The Celtics are 5th in the East and 5 games over .500. He’s succeeding in the best league in the world. IU hasn’t been a destination in over a decade. Why settle for that?

I never said Indiana was a destination job, so not sure where that comes from.

The Celtics have underachieved this year and just a couple weeks ago were in the 7-10 slots where they would be in the play in games. Celtic fans are not exactly happy with how things are going and there is going to be growing pressure on Stevens. He has not really done much there, at least not enough to live up to the expectations of Celtic fans.

So yeah it is not a stretch to think that at some point he might think he should have taken the money from IU.

He'd find a job like Billy Donovan in the NBA pretty quickly too.

Plus he can just wait to take over at a top basketball program like Duke or UCLA.
