Right. ND was in a similar spot for the better part of two decades. Southern Cal and Texas are there now. OU is on its way the second it joins the SEC

Nebraska used to be good at things. Michigan, outside from this year, probably doesn’t love most of the post-Carr era. Oregon disappeared after Chip Kelly left. Bama had a rough 10 years pre-Saban. The list goes on.

Right, and that’s something I think Kelly was very good at. Either directly or by identifying coaches who could get it done.

Hopefully Freeman can do the same. Doesn’t matter who you bring in if you’re not sure what to do with them once they’re in the building.

Lincoln Riley was OC at OU for 2 seasons and Ryan Day was OC at OSU for a season and a half before they became head coaches. It's not a guarantee Freeman will be comparable, but I think schools are seeing their best chance at getting a great coach is to look internally first before going for retreads or the new hotness.
