I can as well. I also think the vast majority of us would swap out the record of our favorite team for Syracuse's record. "Solidly above average," pretty well sums it up.

They have a billionaire booster who pays celebs to come to games and seems to be a one-man NIL factory for the school.

I’d think he could sway some NYC players to come. If they find a coach with a pulse they should be ok.

That’s exactly it. Many of these old school coaches don’t want to adapt and just stay stubbornly opposed to gift horses falling into their laps. DePaul stays stubbornly stupid as well. Putting together a payroll for one and dones can’t be that hard. Hell the payroll was flush in the early eighties. Do it again!

Boeheim has five career final four appearances as a head coach. Only fifteen schools have more final fours in their program history.

I'd describe him as being in the tier immediately below the all time undisputed greats. You've got your John Woodens /Dean Smiths/Bobby Knights tier.

Boeheim is in the next tier with Denny Crum, John Thompson, Lute Olsen, etc.

Yeah I can live with that. I’ll upgrade him to very good. Mike Brey may be a better fit for above average.

I always thought of Boeheim as a poor man’s Calhoun, which would still be a very accomplished coach. I don’t think he was as good as modern guys I’d put in that second tier like Self, Pitino, etc., but spending 40+ years at a place and being relevant in each decade is impressive.

Yeah, a guy like Brey or Matt Painter is solidly above average. Boeheim coached for 47 years, he made the Sweet Sixteen in his first year as coach and in his third to final season. It wasn't like he had 35 mediocre seasons and 12 good seasons. He delivered for essentially his whole tenure.

It seemed like he underachieved in the first 2/3 of his career and overachieved in the last 1/3

No matter what you think of him, any list that doesn't include Coach K isn't worth the paper it is typed on.
