I would agree, however, everyone thought Ohio State, Toledo and WMU were going to beat us easily too. That was back when we still had Hare.

Very few teams destroy NIU. When we lose its usually a close loss.

However, if this 5th stringer starts tossing up a bunch of INTs then it could happen. NIU will look to establish the run though because that's what we will need to do to keep BG offense off the field and give ourselves the best shot to win.

They had a chance with Graham.

BG is going to score. There is no question about that even with a good defensive game. That means NIU is going to have to keep up. They may be able to do that for a half by running but I think it gets ugly in the 4th when they need the 5th stringer to lead a drive.

I'm not sure Graham was that much of a threat. In his two full games, he had 190 yards passing against Buffalo and 158 yards passing against WMU.

BG defense is bad. They're 10th in the MAC in total defense and that's even with them playing in the much easier East division.

Santacatarina sighting!!! Shit.....Don't burn his redshirt year in a lost cause. Luckily they just ran a wildcat play.

That's a dump bowl. Expensive to get to, played in a crappy old soccer stadium and the seating is terrible.

The weather is warm, but that's not a prized bowl.
Boca Raton Bowl is a much, much better destination, for instance. So is San Diego.

Good for the players...

All of those are better than the Pizza Bowl. Sure you make bank on travel and the fans can go....but it blows for the players.

The SD bowls are some of my favs.

Serious question:

Does the Bahamas bowl have to consider the number of players that have viable passports when they select their teams? Is that why they select them so early on in the process?

I can see that being an issue.

How come no one will hire Carey away from us? All these open coaching positions.

He will win you many regular season games if you don't mind his 1-5 postseason record.

Maybe our previous athletic director we were glad to have hired away (by ECU) will offer him a bunch of money now that they fired their head coach.

NOW YOU WANT TO COME AROUND TO MY OPINION??? Funny how you don't share this opinion on the other board.
Speak up!
Man, I've been on this since the day Doeren left. Carey is a terrible game manager, bad leader, and maybe a decent recruiter.

Come and get him!

Actually, let's take this the other direction.......

Fire Carey. He's a cheap buyout. I will take Ruffin McNeill right now. We can afford him.

I wasn't expecting to win but i also wasn't expecting the #1 rushing offense in the MAC to stink two straight games.

Too bad Jordan Huff keeps ending up in the doghouse and can't become a more complete player. Kid has homerun ability.

I don't think they would fire Carey unless he had at least two straight losing seasons. We have no money and Illinois can't even pass a budget to fund its public universities.

His teams have no identity. I have no idea what they do well...who does it well and why they do it well.

Do you realize how far NIU would have to fall to have a sub-500 record for 2 straight seasons?
Have you seen next years schedule? It's terrible, non-conf wise. But hell, ROLL TIDE!!!

We got people stealing money at that school so bad.

Yep!
They are gonna get crushed by a Sun Belt team in some shit bowl, and still be 8-6.

I know the QB injuries that they have suffered would hamper any team at any level, but my disgust goes way beyond that.
Carey looks like an over-matched HS coach. And he is paid similarly. It's gross.

good location. That is probably the second best bowl in terms of attractiveness in their history

The Pointsettia Bowl is just as meaningful as the Idaho Potato Bowl.

but it's played in SD which is better than everywhere but Miami (probably better but not as big of a bowl)

I think those SD bowls get good crowds as well because they give free tickets to servicemen

When did SD become a good location?

When the alternatives were locales like Boise, Natchitoches, and Mobile, probably.

I'll never forget when NIU was in that bowl in Natchitoches and ran a spot for it on the Score. 60 seconds of copy over marching band music on AM radio has to be the Chinese water torture of broadcasting.

Someone please take that chinless fuck off of NIU's hands. This team came in completely unprepared in every facet of the game. Coaching really shows itself for better or worse in these bowl games

SPanky and the other Alums will have to open the checkbooks for that to happen. No one is hiring him away and NIU not going to fire him. He's signed through the 2018 season.
