SPanky and the other Alums will have to open the checkbooks for that to happen. No one is hiring him away and NIU not going to fire him. He's signed through the 2018 season.

https://hkm.com/football/wp-content/upl ... ntract.pdf

He's one of the lowest paid coaches in CFB.
He f'ing sucks. He continues to show this year after year, game after game.

Problem is, NIU (and other state schools) are essentially stuck where they are right now, especially regarding frivolous sports spending. Bad look when the state is in such bad financial ruin.

Bowling Green coach gets the Syracuse gig. Western Michigan coach is a guy on everyone's radar. NIU doofus is coach for life.

NIU OC will not return. The DC is going to Rutgers.

I was hopeful that we would get Matt Canada back since NCSt just released him but instead we hired NCSt offensive line coach Mike Uremovich as OC. He coached RBs and STs at NIU in 2012 and followed Dave Doeren to NCSt.

Now let's go get Paul Rhodes as our DC.

I PREDICT: NIU will have a worse overall record next year, except there's Ohio St or BC on the schedule......

NIU had two good head coaches. Now they're stuck with a dud. This dude's pretty awful. Nice guy but clearly over his head.

Don't doubt the alumni. Carey may be around one more year but if they head further downhill he'll be gone.

NIU basketball is finally decent! Thought they'd get there...

yes, I'm aware of that. My expectations are low and they were exceeded by that game.

They lost by 13. I'm happy that near blowout losses are a win in your book.

If you watched the game it was close throughout. It was 33-31 at halftime. We were within 5 points with 7 minutes left in the game and then we went stone cold. For a team that has three seniors (one of which hasn't played all season due to injury and was our best player last season) and has relied on mostly freshmen they have done surprisingly well.

I didn't say the word win. What I said was I'm happy with a modicum of success. Go enjoy whatever college basketball powerhouse you root for.

Im embarrassed to have attended this university. Rod Carey is a fucking horrible coach, and Drew Hare has been exposed as a bum. So disappointed.

No, he's still head coach down there.

Wow... Western Illinois just drove the ball down the field on their first drive and scored a touchdown.

This is not good.

This is the 4th game NIU just looks flat to start. That's all coaching. Pathetic coaching.

Btw, I don't think Ryan Graham is all that good. Was he even that heralded coming out of Wheaton?

Wish they had PJ Fleck as coach.

you went to NIU too? Huh.

Yeah, as I previously stated in this thread, Carey is way over his head. Took longer than I expected but NIU is going to have to get rid of him. Nice guy but just overmatched. This is going to be a long year. Basketball may actually be better than football this year.

The players just don't look like they give a fuck on defense, and the offense looks really predictable for a spread. It's just horrible. Doeren, or however his name is spelled, was a fiery coach who the players respected and wanted to play hard for. Carey is just a lumbering mope on the sidelines.

You can tell there has been some lapses in recruiting, and the coaching is sub par to say the least.

Wasted nearly 3 whole games with Ryan Graham as your QB before you decide to put in a Senior who can throw the ball more than 10 yards? Fire this fucking coaching staff during the post game speech.

They had a really great run for a mid major.

The only way to keep those things going is by hiring rising young coaches each time a previous rising young coach is hired away by a bigger program. They had a great line but that ended with Carey. He hung on with other's recruits and systems for a while. You know that you are in trouble when you are a mid major who takes his team to a NYD game and doesn't get hired away.
