I've never heard Red Grange referred to as the Grey Ghost but then I haven't sat down and read much Grantland Rice, either. EDIT: I don't suppose it really matters; the new racket with college football uniforms is that Nike or whoever designs these weird alternate uniform templates and then offers them to numerous schools who imbue them with whatever backstory the marketing department comes up with to make it seem like they're actually bespoke designs. There are probably identical grey uniforms for, I dunno, UVA that represent Virginia's battleships or something. |

I was at one of Red Grange's final appearances in 89/90 or so at UofI during halftime. Pretty cool. He was living in Florida at the time, pretty low-key, but came out one last time. Howard Griffith had just broken his and the NCAA TD record. It was pretty cool. |

In Lovie's defense, the cupboard was bare and the Illini have had a lot of injuries, too. |
