Actually I did a google search after this thread came up and found a site where they convert old games. Haven't had time to do it yet but they have Outpost and many other games all ready to download and run in WinBox. Pretty cool.

I bought Civ 5 during the latest Steam sale and still haven't played it, so I'm probably going to pass for now.

Just fired up the first game. Graphics are very impressive. The game looks cool as hell. More to follow

It's not just on Steam, is it?

I'm at my parents' for the weekend and their internet is some stone age shit. Would be great to have it this weekend, though.

I'm not sure but I would assume Steam isn't the only option for getting it.

The technologies are different too. It will take some trial and error again to figure out the best research route to go.

Barbarians have scouts now. I'm not sure why.

To scout the civilizations more effectively based on a better tile movement per turn and reduced penalties for uneven terrain.

I am still stuck back on the freeciv version, and still pissed off that there aren't any Fundamentalists.

This fucker isn't going to run on a Chromebook, is it? My desktop machine is archaic and not getting upgraded or replaced anytime soon.

I'm not sure if I like the changes to workers. They are called builders now, and they are temporary. When you're stoned and playing it makes it easier to forget to build new ones.

Finally bought this shit. The little one is down for the count. Got a Home Run Inn frozen in the oven and some seven and sevens on tap when the old lady gets home. Doesn't get any better.

I know this makes me sound old, but I hate that you have to be online and connected to Steam to play. Why can't I just play offline?

Idk... it's okay but doesn't knock my socks off. I have the graphic settings as high as they'll go, but they're just okay, IMO. Plays very similar to Civ 5.

I don't think it plays anything like civ 5. It's entirely different.

Maybe I'm not far enough in then. I've maxed at 50 turns.

Civ's always take an expansion or two to really shine, but supposedly Civ 6 is the most "feature full" vanilla game.

I still haven't gotten it yet, and with FF coming in a couple weeks I'll probably wait for a Steam Winter Sale.

The religion thing needs some work. Missionaries just clog the map at time and it becomes impossible to manage in the midgame when most Civs have 4-5+ cities up and running.

There's a lot of broken mechanics but the new systems are really fun (minus the theological combat which is annoying).

If you're a casual Civer or missed 5 Brave New World, I recommend to wait until at least January and the Aztecs are playable for everyone, and there's a patch. Even in it's current state, it's much more fun than 5 was at release and has the potential to be the best Civ ever.

There's really no use for navy at all in Civ6 unless you're playing island or building wayyy wide and going overseas to indulge the need for more and more cities. The harbor district already makes it so there's no point at all in building on a coast and the lack of good coastal tiles actually punishes you for building any city on the water.

So all the turns, production and gold that go into a strong navy pretty much only grants you a couple natural wonders (if you are lucky), crab tiles that aren't all that strong and maybe an island or two that grants a new amenity. Its just not worth the turn and production investment, especially when most players ignore the coasts entirely and keep their cities safely out of range of any naval threat.

So yea, the sea needs to be buffed big time or at least the time it takes to build naval units and harbor district improvements needs to be halved.

The NQ Mod fixes the sea resources and a bunch of other things balance wise. I definitely recommend it.

Just started playing 5...holy fucking time suck...

One...more...turn...

From what I've seen of 6 though it looks really pretty and it has Sean Bean narrating everything, which makes me want it pretty bad. Gonna wishlist it for now.

Been drinking and playing Civ V all day and I'm longing to hear Sean Bean's voice narrate everything, so I caved in and bought VI. Now to just wait for the download...

So religion is really fucking powerful, huh?

Also, theological combat is hilarious the first time if you totally aren't expecting it (which I wasn't).

VI is a lot better than Beyond Earth but V was the high point of this franchise IMO. It's pretty much a perfect game.

Yeah I've only played a few games of VI and it certainly has things I like (districts, placing wonders, and the aforementioned theological combat) but I'm already thinking I'm going to go back to V after a few more games until some more stuff gets fleshed out.

You're touching on what brought me back to gaming after a break from 99 to 2015. Fixing games. Used to be if it were broken it stayed broken. Now they update and fix shit and that makes things so much better.
