IMU and I went to a bar in Mt Prospect tonight where there were a lot of stops and a gym across the street. Obviously we were in a spot where shit was but crazy how ubiquitous it was.

yeah my brother said on his drive home from work tonight he saw a str8up gaggle of ~5-10 kids running around all holding up their cellphones in front of them so i reckon this must be the pokemon go effect.

idk what's scarier.... that this "viral marketing" that includes proper/ish massmedia has worked so great that this game is a legit SUPER-THING right now (akin to those news stories back in the day that would go out and announce what the hot-toys-for-christmas could be for christmas in sept/oct and then LOW AND BEHOLD, go figure those toys/dolls/etc ended up being the HOTTEST TOYS/GIFTS FOR CHRISTMAS! you know, on some ol life magazine asking "is jackson pollock the greatest painter alive?" and then fait accompli ensues) --- AHEM. or that there will inevitably be like 5-50 carbon-copies/clones of this game within the coming months-to-year/s and soon there's gonna be 50-500+ different little stupid games exactly like this (tho they'll have to have some serious juice in the data/bandwith game if they're gonna try to soak up all the incoming mapping/data to sell it off to third parties [i.e. where you make REAL BANK])

either way.... smh. just smh. THIS IS THE WORLD YOU WANTED, PEOPLE! this is what gaming has come down to (stupid gimmicky mobile phone games > all) ---- somehow we gotta blame gamergate for this!

I had to drive to my wifes work at about 4pm yesterday and there were at least three people working separately to find pokemon on the sidewalks.

This thing is going to change the world.

It's going to be really interesting to see how this effects things like sporting events and concerts. If this gets enough market share that 25% of the people in attendance play the game then we could see some serious amounts of activity.

I mean, Cubs fans already don't actually watch the games. Might as well go hunting for pokemon in the concourse.

thats the obvious next step to this. "Just released, rare XYZ pokemon, located inside your local Taco Bell only", etc. Bonus XP with purchase of a pokemon chalupa.

Word on the street is that some haxor's looked into the Pokemon Go code and there is already script in there referencing McDonalds, so that is where it's headed. Mayor McCheese pokemons. I guess they needed to counteract the benefits of the exercise with some good old fashioned diabeetus.

In honor of their fallen Orlando marketing manager, Colleen Burns, who died chasing Pokemon off a cliff in the Grand Canyon, YELP has added a Pokemon GO filter to their search function:

Nintendo's stock plummets after 'Pokémon Go' investor gaffe
Danny Cowan,Digital Trends 23 hours ago Comments Sign in to like Reblog on Tumblr Share Tweet Email

Days after Nintendo’s stock market value hit a record high due to the success of Pokémon Go, shares have plummeted after the company reminded new investors that it had no role in the game’s development, and will not see significant profits from its release.

The revelation led to Nintendo’s stock losing $6.7 billion in value over the weekend as opportunistic investors shed their recently purchased shares.

Related: Nintendo more valuable than rival Sony thanks to popularity of ‘Pokémon Go’

Nintendo’s recent market surge was due in large part to the strength of the Pokémon brand, as investors apparently didn’t even bother launching the Pokémon Go app for themselves before sinking millions into Nintendo stock over the past week. Pokémon Go‘s initial loading screens make no mention of Nintendo, and the company’s distant relationship with the Pokémon brand is clearly stated across multiple freely searchable online resources.

Though its game consoles are closely tied to the Pokémon brand, Nintendo actually shares Pokémon’s copyright with franchise creators Game Freak and Creatures Inc. Together, the companies profit from the brand via The Pokémon Company, a Japanese firm that controls marketing and licensing. Nintendo currently owns a 32 percent stake in The Pokémon Company.

Over the past week, investors failed to realize that The Pokémon Company — not Nintendo — was responsible for funding, licensing, and greenlighting Pokémon Go, entitling it to the bulk of profits. Nintendo noted in a wake-up call to investors over the weekend that it will see very little of the revenue generated by Pokémon Go reflected in its financial forecast.

“[Nintendo] owns 32 percent of the voting power of The Pokémon Company,” Nintendo explained in its letter to investors. “The Pokémon Company is [Nintendo’s] affiliated company, accounted for by using the equity method. Because of this accounting scheme, the income reflected on [Nintendo’s] consolidated business results is limited.”

The letter continues: “Taking the current situation into consideration, [Nintendo] is not modifying the consolidated financial forecast for now. [Nintendo] will make a timely disclosure when [Nintendo] needs to modify its financial forecasts.”

Mantaring has his own YouTube channel under his nickname, Ryzen Xia. There, he posts videos of himself playing "Pokemon Go," from Chicago to Los Angeles. He says his fiancé helps him record videos, and that his friends and family are used to him following his dreams.

Mantaring: I actually filed bankruptcy after college. I went to open three small businesses. It went really well for a year and then I failed. I messed up. I ended up having to get a regular job and it drove me insane. And when I say regular job, I’m not hating on people who have regular jobs, like a 9 to 5 job or a desk job. I’m not hating on that. It’s just that for me, personally, I want to live my life the way I see it. I would rather be poorer living out my passions than absolutely rich doing what somebody else expected me to do.

That's why I am the kind of free spirit that spends all of my time focusing on a game that a corporation built to sell ad space at McDonalds locations.

Although not for nothing when I was rolling out from the Cubs and Cards game at Wrigley last night there was someone in a Pikachu mascot costume. Although I am not sure if it was an official promotion or just some weird sex thing.
