Just found out my son's dorm room is not equipped for cable TV (no coaxial jack). It just has an ethernet switch with 4 ports. What would be the best option for TV content? I don't envision him watching much TV, but it would be nice to have the ability to stream some shows and watch ESPN other than on his iPad.

Idk anything about Roku, but I like my fire stick.

My brother and I share the cost of the AT&T TV app which is basically a cable package.

Without that I’d be pretty bored being limited to streaming apps.

Even tho I’m sure there are other alternatives/apps for obtaining some form of normal TV viewing experience.

Also, I don’t think Amazon and Warner Brothers have come to an agreement for allowing HBO Max to be added to the fire stick.

I like the Roku a little better if I'm not watching Amazon Prime Video. A little too easily to accidentally buy something on the Firestick.

Hulu (not live)/Disney/ESPN+ is $12/month as a package
Prime Video is essentially $10/month if you don't have an account he can mooch off of.

Let him go a semester and see what he misses.

Roku ultra is nice, has port for wired connection. if you lose remote can push button on device to ping remote. It Can be had for $60 or so.

Have both devices and you'll be fine with either.

Does tv have an antenna input? Can get that flat antenna you hang on the wall to get local channels. I think it's $40. Works great for me.

Yeah, didn’t think about the antenna for local channels.

have you bought the tv yet? we have a roku tv as our main tv and it is pretty much one of the best decisions we made.

we also now have 3 other rokus in the house. I have a firestick in my garage and I hate it. it does a poor job of distinguishing what is free and what is not.

We also have an apple tv connected to the basement playroom tv. If I could chuck it in the river I would.

I prefer Roku. Seems a lot more user friendly than the Firestick, from what I've experienced.
