Watched the video on XBox LIVE last night, and while the machine looks cool, I stil have a couple questions:

1) Has the red ring issue been resolved fully? If not, has it improved?

2) WiFi still worries me regarding lag times, regardless of how Maj. Nelson sells it to me.

3) With this console being Kinect-ready, will anything additional sans the motion camera need to be purchased?

Red ring has improved...not sure if they've fully resolved it...

Obviously Wired beats Wireless, but I have a wired Xbox for the hardcore gaming...to be able to have a second box in the house and not need to either run 50 feet of CAT5 or shell out 100 bucks for a seperate adapter is nice...

Finally, the "Kinect-ready" is likely just refering to the fact that with the new console, you won't need a seperate power source for the Kinect...with the older 360's, the Kinect will require it's own power source...

Finally got mine today...fucking UPS didn't show up until shortly before seven...

Haven't played anything on it yet (still in the process of transfering 1010 items of content...good lord where did all that come from?) so I can't comment on how much quieter it is...

...however, what I've noticed so far is that it is smaller, the once mechanical buttons are now touch sensitive, and the memory card slots are nowhere to be found...looks like your storage options are now limited to the new hard drive or a USB memory stick...speaking of which, there are now 5 USB connections, as well as what I've read to be a "custom-USB" connection that will be used for the Kinect...

Wireless was a breeze to set up...my router only supports G so I haven't been able to test the N capability yet, but if I'm satisfied with the results, I'll definitely consider getting a second one for the living room...

Besides the system and the power supply, there was also a black wireless controller and black wired headset included...the new black controller gets rid of the grey accent pieces (d-pad, joysticks, bottom strip) and instead is all black, except for the four colored buttons and the guide button, which is a more reflective chrom color instead of the dull silver it was on the previous controller...

The headset is all black too instead of grey...it really doesn't matter, but I like it...

Also, in addition to the extra USB connections, there's now an optical out actually hard wired into the box (before you have to use a seperate adapter if you wanted optical out)...of course, if you go with an HDMI connnection only, this doesn't matter, but I figured the more connections the better...

While I really have no reason why I would buy the new console, I still want one really, really badly. Let me know how the wireless router operates in terms of lag.

Three matches of MW2...all lag free...had either 3 or 4 green bars the whole time...

...of course, this was with the Xbox positioned exactly two feet away from the router...

I traded in my Original 360 at gamestop for credit toward the new one because my original 360 was always so loud and I was always afraid it was going to break so I traded it in while I could get something for it. After trade-in credit and a $75 credit on my edge card, it cost me $100 of my cash. Definitely quieter than my original 360, there are times when I fist turn it on that I think its not on because its that much quieter.

Did some more testing of the wireless over the weekend...Netflix streamed HD without a hitch...originally was going to get a router that did N just for this but looking at the transfer speeds of G vs. N, it just seems like overkill...

Ok...

So essentially, if what was written above is accurate in terms of prices and trade-ins....

The new system is $299.99. NCM traded in his original 360, used a $75 gift card, and needed an additional $100?

So does that mean that trade value of the original 360 is only about $125?

I'm surprised he got that much for it...unless he packaged a bunch of other stuff with it too...the price for the old Arcades and Elites are 149.99 and 249.99 respectively until they run out...you figure that a piece of hardware as unreliable as the 360 doesn't get a very good price at resale and I'd say $125 is a very good return.

I just sold my Arcade that I used maybe for two weeks for 50 bucks...I thought I was really lowballing myself but I saw someone selling one in the buy and sell at work for 40 bucks and that was with a couple games and controllers.

This just in: Kinect BLOWS.

http://www.gameinformer.com

And it is going to cost $150 for the camera on top of the need to buy a new console. Way to go, Microsoft.

Why would you want something that is going to let you view fat men sitting in their parent's basement in their underwear?

You need to start huffin' some different glue or something ... any more of a slump out of you and you're going to have the posture of a jumbo shrimp.

Hmmm sounds like you should get the Playstation Move

Reports say that you can get the move package for about $80...

If I wanted to spend a bunch of money to have something tell me when to sit, jump, or run I would have gotten married.

Wait...what happened here...

No Ugie, the new Xbox doesn't come with HD cables...they haven't included them for a while now...IIRC, the PS3 doesn't include them anymore either...

...also, you are going to be a little more specific as to why Kinect sucks than a generic link to Game Informer...I'd be interested to read their thoughts, but I'm not sifting past the first page to find it...

...and no, you don't need a new Xbox 360 to use it...Kinect works with EVERY 360 ever made...only thing is if you are using the older 360s the Kinect will need a seperate power source.

Uh, kind of...the price for the combo of the two controllers is 80 bucks, but you need to buy the camera as well...I think that goes for 40 last I checked...

...still cheaper though...

Since I'm simple, I'll just ask this in simple language: does this Kinect malarkey offer anything meaningful except Wii-like interaction?
