I remember putting a bunch of quarters into Dragon's Lair (it just looked so cool), but never understanding how it worked. I remember because it was 2 quarters when all the rest were one quarter. Did anyone else have that experience?

This game got a buck out of me. I couldn't figure out what was going on with it either the first time.
Didn't stop me from tossing two more quarters into it and trying again before I left dejected. Was
the coolest looking game back then that is for sure.

I probably have said this before but the whole reason that my parents bought me a NES was that I loved playing Castlevania at Pizza Hut.

They accidentally bought me Castlevania 2, which was significantly harder, and me being young and naive like immessedup is now, I was unable to play it very well for a couple years. I am still not certain I ever beat the whole game though I'm pretty sure I could if I wanted to.

Game developers are making them easier to appeal to a wider audience... in addition, you didn't have folks publishing on Youtube how to beat a boss.

Of course arcade games are harder...can't have you sitting in front of it for 30 minutes having only spent a buck...

my friend and i stayed up all night trying to beat that game, to the point where i think we were up for over 30 hours straight. we were only 11 and it was a weekend night so it wasn't a big deal...i finally beat it on my own a week later.

the entire play through i think takes about 3 hours total. it is a total ball buster.

AVGN's review is pretty good. But I don't think the game "sucked".

Only game I haven't seen on this list, that I loved, was NFL Blitz.

I remember going to Hawaii (yes, fatha) the only time I'd ever been there. My sister and I spent at least 5 hours in one of the hotel game rooms because the Dragon's Lair they had there was unlimited play. The top of the console opened up and we could just press the button and play forever. My parents caught on eventually after three hours and gave us the "We've spent all this money to come here and for you guys to play video games?!!!!!"

obviously any list has to start with NBA Jam and later NBA hangtime, where i was something like 73-0 at UIC back in the day.

VIRTUAL ON (UIC had this too. nothing like an elegant japanese distance fighter with mechs designed by hajime katoke of gundam fame. if i ever get rich this is the arcade game i want)
