Nascar dodged a bullet today. That shouldn't have even happened. These cars are running way too much downforce. They can't get away from each other because everyone can run flat. Newman shouldn't have even been caught at the end.

This is generally acknowledged as the worst wreck ever and Waltrip walked away. Craven at Talladega in '96 might have been even worse and he walked away too.

i didnt see it live, but watching the video it was bad, but my expectation was he was still alive but possibly seriously hurt/broken bones.

That was my belief as well. Dude doesn't have a scratch on his face or arms even. Was he in bubble wrap sitting in that car?

I'm not a racing expert. It doesn't surprise me that he survived, but it does surprise me that he is walking out of the hospital -without the aide of a cane or anything- less than 48 hours after that crash happened.
