Playoffs? Playoffs!?!? PLAYOFFS!!!!!?
-------------------------------------------------------
PLEASE NOTE:
A Dealbreaker Pick may be taken from you by someone else also using a Dealbreaker. This is called "nuclear option"
driver picking. Yes, this is unfair and everyone may use up their Dealbreakers going after the same driver, in the same week.
-------------------------------------------------------
Everybody pick a driver each week. Nobody picks the same guy, picking is first come first served. The thread will be posted weekly. By rule, I get to pick Jeff Burton each week if I am so compelled. The newly released off probation and racelog co-host Keeping Score gets to pick Joe Nemechek every week. Tally up the points of the driver yous pick each week and reset the field after the Richmond race. This will be a 26 week play-in to the Chase For The Cup.
This means there will only be 43 spots available in this contest. SO SIGN UP EARLY AND OFTEN(you mults yous).

Then, starting with the first Chase race at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, the Top 12 posters shall be assigned to the driver corresponding in the SPRINT CUP standings. They keep this driver for the duration of the Chase. The chosen 12 will also get to pick a driver out of the Chase to make things more interesting. And rack up the points for the championship.

Confused? Good. Reward? Yes. A prize of undetermined greatness will be given out after the season.

1. If you pick someone and one of the players ahead of you in the standings want that driver, you have to pick another driver. This will go on for the rest of the season, just like NASCAR. If you don't pick another driver by the drop of the green flag you will be assigned the best available driver based on qualifying. A poster can only have their pick bumped ONCE per week. Your second pick will be protected from getting bumped a second time. Unless someone uses a Dealbreaker award on you.

*Dealbreaker award
This rule has been added to let someone who picks a race winner to be given a Dealbreaker award. It would let the poster either pick bump anyone(except the leader) ahead of them in the standings or take somebodys second pick. It can be saved and used at anytime during the regular season, even right before the drop of the green flag. The Dealbreaker award is a regular season gimmick and none will be given during the playoff season. The awards can transfer to the playoffs, but all deals must be complete by the last regular season race Week 26 at Richmond.

Any players who get their pick bumped or somebody goes and uses the Dealbreaker on them, they will be PM'ed in a timely manner as possible. Dealbreaker awards are able to be bought, sold, or bartered. Players don't have to use them every week or ever use them at all and sell them to players that would really need it late in the regular season. The Dealbreaker may be dealt for straight cash homie, or you can trade some of your points, or work out something to job a player ahead of you in the standings.

Shenanigans are endorsed and encouraged by the Rules Cabal. All trades, deals, and any other kind of brilliant schemes must be presented in the weekly thread and approved by the Rules Cabal for them to be used that week. The value of the Dealbreaker award has yet to been set. I'll leave that up to those involved in the dealings. And let anyone say a single cross word about the Rules Cabal decisions and watch what happens.

2. Driver picking priority will be based off of the weekly standings. Enforcement of rule #1 is ironclad and absolute, unless I feel otherwise or my belly is filled with party liquor. Whichever occurs first.
3. Up to 43 people will be eligible for the contest during the first 26 races of the season. Once the Chase To The Cup starts, only the top 12 will advance to the playoffs.
4. You can sign up and never make a pick, you'll be assigned the best available driver based on qualifying that week.
5. Failure to abide by these rules will be dealt with the most harsh and unfair of judgements by the NASCAR Pick 'em rules cabal, err, committee.

Late Breaking News from Rules Cabal Media Relations Department:

Due to popular demand and the betterment of people across the internets, a 13th team has been added to Chase contest. The racelog announce team of donspiracy and Keeping Score has been added to the Chase playoff. They will make their picks each week from what is left of the eligible drivers right before the drop of the green flag. The racelog team picks two non-Chase drivers and just to be more unfair, will start with -6 points. There will be no pick bumping or pick stealing from the racelog team, as they will make their picks at racetime when all the Chase drivers have made their picks.

One race left. Everybody is out except K Effective, Free Ajent, and spanky. Oh, and RFDC was already out last week. 88 points is the max differential and the cutoff for this week is 560. SHARK just missed it by 8 points. He was that close to contending to be the first multiple time winner of the Nascar Pick 'em contest. SHARK won the first year is 2008, Dr. Ken was champ in '09, and last year RFDC wasn't cursed with a stone of a Chase driver and won it all last year.

Even if you have been eliminated from the championship, feel free to make a pick this week. The driver picking priority will be based off of the final standings of this year for the first five races of the season next year. As for the racelog announce team, I will go back to 15th place and Keeping Score will go back to 19th place as that is where we finished during the regular season and not qualifying for the playoffs.

You're welcome. Back-to-back weeks of both your drivers scoring Top 10's has all but put this contest on ice for you.
For spanky or Ajent to overcome this 60+ point deficit, both of their drivers need to finish Top 5 and K Effective's driver would have to finish 35th or worse.

Well that fucking sucks.

It was fun, picking the same driver week in week out...yeah lots of fun.

Dammit. I didn't even see you already had you pick taken away. You can keep him

I will take Bowyer.

I'm saving those dealbreakers for something special possibly.

I'll finish the 2011 Sprint Cup Series with someone who won for me on a few occasions this season and a guy I think might be in next year's Chase.

Sounds to me like Edwards is nervous as hell and worried about Stewart breathing down his neck. My bet is on Smoke handling the pressure Sunday much better and winning the championship.

It's as simple as this...

If Carl Edwards finishes ahead of Tony Stewart Sunday, Edwards is the Sprint Cup Champion regardless of who else takes the checkered flag in the Ford 400 itself.

If Tony Stewart wins the race or ties Edwards, "Smoke" wins the Sprint Cup title for a third time, but first as an owner/driver.

SHARK, I think you better recheck your statement there.

KS, they have the same number of wins at Homestead I believe, so the place has been good to both guys

This is what I saw on ESPNEWS late last night and that's the formula that determines how either driver can win the Sprint Cup title Sunday in Miami.

SHARKs statement makes it seem the only way for Smoke to win is to win the race. So if Smoke finishes 11th and Edwards 15th, who wins?

I've got to think Stewart wins if he finishes ahead of Edwards Sunday. He also has the tiebreaker, RFDC. It's only a 3 point lead for Edwards going into Sunday's NSCS finale.

I was gonna say Smoke by a point.......

HOWEVER, couldn't laps come into play as well? I believe there are points awarded for leading a single lap in the race, as well as for leading the most laps ??

From what I understand, NASCAR awards up to 48 points per race.

NASCAR Bonus Points

Bonus points are awarded as follows:

Three bonus points are awarded to the driver that wins the race.

One bonus point is awarded to any driver that leads any lap. An additional bonus point is awarded to the driver that leads the most laps in each race.

Example #1

The most points a driver can earn in a single race is 48. If you win the race (43 points) and lead the most laps you would receive 3 bonus points for winning, one bonus point for leading a lap and one more bonus point for leading the most laps.

Example #2

If you win the race but do not lead the most laps you would receive 47 points, 43 + 3 for winning and 1 bonus point for leading a lap (since you must have lead at least the last lap). While the most the second place driver could earn is 44 points. 42 for second, 1 bonus point for leading and 1 additional bonus point for leading the most laps.

It used to be possible for the first and second place finishers to earn the same number of points. NASCAR fixed that in 2004 by giving the race winners extra bonus points. In 2007 NASCAR added even more points to the winner's total. In 2011 NASCAR overhauled the point system but maintained the race winners bonus as it is today.

This point system rewards consistency more than it rewards winning. A full understanding of this NASCAR point system will help you win a NASCAR Championship.

There's your rules right there Hawger!!!!!!!!!!

That's it, I'm calling Vickers.

You're my guy KS
