I've never been to a NASCAR race, but want to take my son. Other than ear protection, what do I need to know? should I get the pit/infield pass? How much of a nightmare is traffic? If race is at 1:00, what time should I aim to get to the track? Any other stuff I should know?

Traffic fucking blows getting in and out of there.

The pit passes would be cool...He'd dig that. Also, I think you can rent radios to listen to a few pit crews during the race.

I would get to the track around 10:30 or 11:00. But if you get pit passes, it could be earlier. It doesn't hurt to run out of there right as the last lap is completed. You'll likely save yourself 45min - to an hour of sitting.

Do you think the saturday Nationwide race would be a lot easier? He's only 6 and I'm sure wouldn't care too much that its a minor race.

Rent the radios with the earphones, you will thank me later. You can get into every pit and also get on with the radio and tv broadcast. This will also take care of the noise with the cars.

It'll be a little better. When I was going, the track was sold out and that doesn't really happen anymore.

Parking is free. If somebody tries to make you pay for it, don't. When coming and going to the track, try and access from the south end of route 53 from Wilmington. You want to get there a couple of hours before the race. Enough time to park, and walk to the facility. You can do a hot lap around to look at the drunken wierdos of 'Murica and check out the merch booths.

Leaving the track, it will take time depending on how much they close off side roads leaving the area. I-80 is right there off of rte 53, but it will take some time.

Is your first ride, a Model T enshrined there?

I'd love to wind one up and drive it over your foot!

Ignore the little bump out on the corner of Rowell & Haven. If you take this way, it will take you 5 minutes to park once you exit I80. Don't tell anyone, though.

Yes. Traffic is horrible at this track. I'm sure you can just buy tickets from someone at the track in the parking lot.
Mrs. Scorehead & I are considering going but I just hate dealing with the traffic, the racing sucks at this track, & I don't want to miss the beloved beat the Vikings.
