IIRC correctly, Gordon was born in Indiana, so the redneck roots were there before the move to Cally.

I was impressed by Gordon's driving ability early on, especially his road track wins. I think a lot of his success was the team focus- the original Rainbow Warriors pit crew were some of the first to work out and train together, making them more efficient and thus him more successful. Great to drive for a great owner and top notch crew chiefs as well. But I pretty much rooted for the racing, never for just one driver, which is probably why I still like the local dirt track better than NASCAR
