Watching the Sox-Dodgers game, I had to giggle. RR and I shared an affinity for women of a certain ethnicity. I feel bad saying it, but he always piped up whenever I made mention of this, and it never failed to make me laugh.

I think the first time I connected with him was when I shared some Harlem Renaissance poetry on the board. He zeroed in on that, and I got a huge kick out of the fact that he was related to Lorraine Hansberry. That was nine years ago.

He was related to Lorraine Hansberry? How did I miss that? I wish I had known. It would have been interesting to hear him talk about that.

I'll remember him as I met him. A vibrant guy.

Sorry to hear it got bad at the end. The whole day has been just sad.

He faced death with courage.

We talked about it plainly when we got together last month. He thought he had more time, and I’m sad Nas and I won’t see him tomorrow like we planned

I didn't even know some of you guys still saw each other. I wish I was here for the golden age of the board. But what you wrote is painful.

Like Nas said, he had a rough last few years. I kept in touch with him pretty regularly, but I wish I had seen more of him.

He was still a vibrant guy in the hospital last month. Even after cancer had done a number on him.

Yeah, somehow he was. He had the same knowledge of the South Side as me, but from across the street, as it were, so it was interesting to talk to him about all of that. I told him he should come speak to some class I was teaching at the time, and he said, "Sure. That will cost you three bottles."

Sorry to hear this news. I knew he had battled health problems over the years, but hadn't realized it was this bad.

He'll be missed around here.

Wow......I'm sorry to all of you who were friends with RR. He seemed like a very interesting guy. Board legend. Never interacted with him in person but this is still a gut punch.

And Doc....I'm sorry about your brother.

Never interacted with him much on the board but I thoroughly enjoyed his posts. Condolences to his family, friends and those here who knew him. I hope he was at peace when he passed.

RIP, Reader.

There won't be a memorial service. Apparently, he didn't want one. He was cremated last week. There may be a balloon release or cookout at a later date.

Maybe at some point this summer or fall CFMB can get together and raise a glass for RR.

That’s a great idea. I would like to propose a date (selfishly because I will be in the area) of Thursday August 10th. Maybe a location in Rosemont like the Caddy Shack place……?

That would be Sunday November 5th....and I say that is a great date to set for a Reader tribute / gathering.

Hey take your own advice and don't say anything further in this thread, rogue.

Bears Saints game would be most appropriate. We could even get a Zoom or virtual thing together at a certain point in the game (start of 2nd qtr for example) where everyone could toast him together.

Maybe.

Not to go all Denis on you all, but I believe I will be on a beach in Punta Cana on this date. I would certain raise my Pina Colda in RR's honor at the chosen time.

I would fly in for that if enough people were attending.

Nothing. Outside of the text from his wife, I would struggle to find out he had passed away.

Is there a charity which he favored?

As a Saints fan and because of what Drew Brees did, Regular Reader would have wanted all donations to go to the Purdue NIL fund.
