We all knew him. He was essentially the same guy in person that he was in our community.

Because of his sons, he struggled with what he was facing, but he didn't want any pity. I respected that. I went by his house a couple of weeks ago, and we talked and drank for hours. He had made peace with the process. Seacrest and I were supposed to stop by on Friday. Maybe we all can have a virtual shot of whiskey in his memory.

I'm glad that he was able to find peace before he passed. As you say, that couldn't have been easy since he obviously loved his sons so dearly. It makes me happy to know that you were able to spend time with him before he died.

NFL Network broadcast a marathon of Classic Super Bowl games (full), and this was one of them. Of course, Classic now means…6 months ago. But still, was great to rewatch. And now I’ll always think of him as well. I was really looking forward to having some banter this season.

But his life was so amazing in a number of ways. He was African American, Lithuanian and Native American.

Graduated from high school at 16, and Northwestern Law at 22.

He hung around personally with guys like Arnie Duncan, Kwame Raoul and JB Pritzker.
