Figured something bad was up when he closed his place, he seemed like somebody who had to be working to be even marginally happy.

Only ate there once, too much rigamarole and I lived too far away. But others I know swore by it.

yeah true that.... once i found out that i lived within walking distance of a "legendary chicago pizza place" i had to sync things up to put in the 24hr call and try it once. and hey it was fine.... you know, not too dissimilar from a pequod's deep dish [from a cpl blocks away] but man oh man.... you know my grandpa donated all of his old radios to burt at one point cuz burt was all about old radios, so it's quite possible that if you've ever been to one of his places where there's old radios around that one of em might have been my grandfather's at some point!

RIP burt, your pizza may be what it is, people may bemoan the "pizza hipster" aesthetic.... but yeah, sheeeeeit, you did your thing and god bless you for that!

My in-laws live 3 blocks from this place, yet we never ate there.

Over the past 10 or so years I tried to order a pizza from there a few times, but either nobody answered the phone or they weren't open.
