The funeral director should demand cash payment in a briefcase up front.

Many whites thought he was white when they heard him on the radio since he had a 'white voice'.

Man so many great lines in his songs.

I like it in that 80s documentary how he punched out Keith Ricahrds.

he learned everything from his cousin Marvin.

(that line in Back to the Future aways pissed me off.)

As T-Sam said, he invented Rock and Roll.

I'm Doug Gottlieb with a message board minute. The word legend is often thrown around in casual conversation, but rarely is the subject truly legendary. That's certainly not the case for rock and roll pioneer, Chuck Berry. His showmanship and innovation through songs like "Maybelline," "Roll Over Beethoven," and "Johnny B. Goode" created a new genre, combining rhythm and blues with guitar solos and lyrics which connected with the youth of America. Berry was an unparalleled artist, having been honored by his contemporaries with covers of his songs by The Beach Boys, The Beatles, and The Byrds, among others. Chuck, you set the bar for what rock and roll should be, and "Rock and Roll Music" won't be the same without you. I'm Doug Gottlieb.

On the last day of my freshman year exams at St. Ignatius, some of my high school friends and I met up with some of my grade school friends at Grant Park for the Blues Fest. We were early enough to snag (and somehow hold) seats at Petrillo Bandshell for the whole day. We saw Willie Dixon, Bo Diddley, and I believe James Cotton. Chuck Berry was the headliner. We were maybe 7 rows back. As Chuck played, I noticed someone who I was 94% sure was Keith Richards in the wings. I announced this to my compatiots, most of whom didn't believe me except my girlfriend and my friend Rob, who promptly began making bets with the people sitting around us. Keith of course came onstage (Matt "Guitar" Murphy was another surprise guest, I don't remember if he was onstage already or not) to the pre-twitter-leaked amazement of most in attendance except me, Felicia, and Rob, who busied himself collecting tenspots and contraband (he is a sergeant with the CPD now.) I remember Chuck changes the line "Oh, my but that little country boy can play" to "Goddamn, can that Keith Richards play."

It was the greatest day of my fourteen years young life.

Yeah, that's a good day. Pre-twitter wagering was a little easier for things like that.
