Christ . It's been a long time since I've heard that name yet I had more than a feeling he wasn't doing well. One of the best rock n roll band drummers from my youth.

Did good work for a bad band.

Their first album produced a number of hits (m'eh), but once you've heard them you've heard every song they ever did.

I don't care who or what was involved in the making, their 1st album is a masterpiece.

Leave the puns Matt, to BR.

I guess Scholz basically wrote , produced arranged and played all the instruments on it then basically hired the "band" to take it on the road essentially. Pretty talented dude . Only because the songs on it have been played to death has it lost its luster but yeah it's a great album.

I suppose that's the majority of the problem.

Oddly enough, I was just reading that he had a heart attack while performing on a Classic Rock Cruise.

Too bad he died but I guess he was not involved in the band for a very long time. Either way, I just got a couple of $20 lawn tickets for Boston here in June or July. I have no guilt about liking them and have spent (wasted) far more money in an evening then I will kicking back with some beers that night.

They are coming to the area this summer with Joan Jett...who's left--just Scholz?

As good as the debut album was, my favorite Boston songs are from Don't Look Back (the title track and A Man I'll Never Be). The bass lines on the track Don't Look Back are simple, but simply sublime.

not only that, but he clearly wrote Boston's wikipedia page....

Sib had a falling out with him a while back, don't think it ever got patched up.

It is Scholtz and a guy that started with them around Third Stage named Gary Pihl (Chicago rock guy) that you would consider older members. I think that is all. Anyway, some years ago I gave them a pass as they were said to not be close to the original at all and even had a chick singer at some point. Now from what I read they have had a former you tube/cover singer that sounds like Brad Delp. Similar to Journey and their Filipino guy.

A HISTORY OF THE BAND BOSTON
Boston’s beginnings go back to 1969 and a band headed by guitarist Barry Goudreau called Mother’s Milk. Vocalist Brad Delp and drummer Jim Masdea were joined by a recent MIT graduate, Tom Scholz on keyboards. The band didn’t last, but its members spent time in a homemade recording studio in Scholz’s basement recording demo tapes in hopes of making a new start.

Those tapes eventually landed Boston a deal with Epic Records. In 1976, they released Boston, which saw more than 17 million in sales. At a time when disco and punk were starting to emerge as influences, Boston’s traditional rock sound was embraced by radio stations and record buyers.
