Laid off nearly their entire writing staff.

Damn, what will the world do without the dreadful writings of Parker Molloy and Liz Heron?

Buzzfeed for people who don't think Buzzfeed is positive enough. Are you familiar with Clickhole? Clickhole is largely a parody of Upworthy.

I also recommend Upworthy Springfield.

Even more nauseating is The Mighty, which is Buzzfeed/Upworthy but disability porn.

I had never heard of the Mighty. Now that I've seen it I wish I could go back.

Upworthy Springfield was the greatest parody site of 2014

I agree.

There are some interesting articles out there on the psychology of internet "things" (for lack of a better term).

Some talk about how people essentially live through the internet and fake happiness on social media sites. Others wind up comparing themselves to others and getting depressed because their life isn't as good. Interesting stuff. I'm not describing it well, but look it up.

The internet has fucked up our entire culture and social-ness. There's all the shit you describe and then there's just this culture of anger (on both sides) that has really made about 97% of the population unbearable to be around. Before the internet, these weirdos would normally be ostracized and laughed at, but now they can seek out other weirdos who are just like them and they now feel they have a voice.

Ten ways my Friends can Help Me When I’m feeling Suicidal : https://themighty.com/2018/02/what-to-d ... -suicidal/

None include alert a doctor. One is tell her to watch a rom-com. The Mighty. We have gone insane.

Nah, this list is good, it will get more of the losers who read that site to off themselves. Just send them Rippy the Razor infographics to aid them.

They have been having annual layoffs, but still have enough revenue to survive.

The digital media bubble has burst.

Goldhirsh watching clips of Ray Lewis speeches before offering this explanation:

Quote:
So, why the layoffs? Former Upworthy/Good CEO Ben Goldhirsh — who left the company almost a year ago per The Wrap but still lists his position as CEO on his Twitter bio — offered thoughts: “Top line is that these cuts are part of a restructure to centralize leadership in Los Angeles. Given what’s afoot in society we need to be our strongest to do as much good as possible. The operation needed to evolve. Nothing is shutting down. Quite the contrary, the team that is operating the business going forward is pissed off for greatness.”

Guessing the folks who were laid off without severance play a meaner "pissed off" game right about now.

Upworthy grew out of MoveOn.org--the failed attempt to elect President John Kerry-Heinz in 2004.
