Yesterday North was ranting that the Thome trade was bad for the Sox. Today, same thing--sox won with Rowand, can't win without him. Why beat up a stupid argument for several days? Oh, that's right-that's his style.

Now, I'm a Cub fan, so I am throwing this out there--please tell me Sox fans on this board aren't thinking along these lines.

He's played both sides of this argument as he said the trade for Thome was very good but they should never have gotten rid of Rowand.

I would make that trade again every day of the week.

The problem is Pappy does not do his homework. The trade that looks questionable is sending Young, Hernandez and Vizquaeno to Arizona for Vazquez. Young is a rookie of the year candidate in centerfield for the D-backs.

It's all about Monday Morning QBing, and loud radio.

He clearly doesn't do any research. I'm guessing if somebody called in about Young, he probably wouldn't even have known he's an ex-Sox. Fred MIGHT know, but I'd love to know if North even knows who he is.

I'm with you, Dolphin. I think the "Thome for Rowand was bad for the Sox" train is picking up passengers every day. Likely because Thome has missed time... and the team looks flat as hell when they don't hit. "Spark Plug" Rowand would have fixed that, of course. He hit a crisp .270 with a memorable 13 homers in '05. Good clubhouse guys and hustle guys are a good idea... but getting guys who mash like Dye and Konerko (especially in the postseason) is a better one.

Aaron Rowand was probably the 12th best player on the white sox championship team if you include pitchers. (Starting pitchers, Jenks, Iguchi, Dye, Konerko, Crede,Podsednick)

Jim Thome would be the best hitter that we have if he ever sees the playoffs. You can't base a good baseball trade off of if it wins you the world series. Aaron Rowand was a good player but he'll never be an all-star.

The trade was a good move that hasn't paid of in a world series.

Rowand's legend has grown since he left. When he was here I thought "average player" at best. He leaves and the media feeds it that he was a Sox favorite. No. Not really. He never was. He was an Ok player.

Mac said it right. He batted .270 in 2005 with what 13 homers? Wow.

But I'm gonna use Pappy logic. We need Carl Everett back. We won da World Series with him. We haven't won it since he left. Dats all I'm sayin.

Aaron Rowand running into a wall in Philly and breaking his face added more to his legend more than any dumbass act I have ever seen.

Anyone who wouldn't trade Rowand for Thome is a mental midget.

Rowand was a good player to have on a team, but he was a complementary player only - maybe we do need some more of that attitude he brought, it certainly couldn't hurt, but Thome is a game changer, but he can't fix faulty pitching, and he can't magically put men on base in front of him.

Saying that, it seems to be rather popular right now to bash Rowand because some morons keep bringing up the idea of getting Rowand back or that we shouldn't have traded him in the first place.

The Sox won 90 games last year. The offense was much better then 2005. Dye was better becasue of Thome. The reason we didn't make the playoffs was becasue the team ERA was a full run higher from 2005. Bottom line. Meatballs like Pappy can't seem to understand that

One of the hallmarks of Pappy's flawed reasoning is his pattern of confusing coincidence with causality. The Sox won with Rowand, but they didn't win because of him. Obviously the same is true for the Bears and Orton, for whom Pappy pined through much of last season...

Right. Before this season Pappy said he didn't think Peyton Manning was good becasue he never won a Super Bowl.

That's the type of an idiot he is.

He loves Kyle Orton and didn't like Peyton Manning. Enough said.

Pappy - Anoder ting. We need Willie Harris back. We won a World Series with him and we didn't win without him. Know what I mean Fred.

Fred - Yeah. You're absolutly right Mike. Nobody can argue with that.

I'll never forget the "Nordt-ism" that went along the lines of: "Why are the Rams changing their colors (after their Super Bowl winning season), they'll never win again."

Oh wait, that short bus veteran may cite this as proof of his seer abilities.

I'll take Jerry Owens performance tonight.

2 for 4 with a double, stolen base, NO errors and scored all of the White Sox runs (2).

No. Sox scored 3 Grid. But you are right. If Erstad doesn't get hurt we might not win today. The one run that Owens didn't score was Uribe on a wild pitch. But he was only on 3rd because of an Owens double.

Now back to pointing out how stupid Pappy is on this thread please. LOL.

This trade is a no brainer. Rowand sucked offensively, and was above average on defense. Anderson was better on D, worse on offense, but I don't know what you really expect from your #9 guy. Arow is having a nice year this year, but I doubt he can keep it up, and the pitching in the NL east is garbage

I was hawking soda and peanuts in '05. I bet if I go back by midseason, the sox have a legitimate shot to win the title.

Using Northism logic.

"ID doesn't matta dat they are in 4th, ok? Dey need Rowand, El Duque and Marte back. Den, once the second Fantastic Four film comes out, Dey'll be back in first, as it was in 05 dat da first FF film kame out, and ok, it was da reason dat dey won it all."

Maybe not here, but on other boards, yes I have seen the "We want Rowand back" mantra alot.

They also call for Brian Anderson to be an everyday MLB player again.

Rowand was like one of the least important players on the '05 White Sox. You had Podsednik having a great season at leadoff, Dye being one of the best hitters, Konerko is obvious, Crede had a great year, Pierzynski was a leader of sorts, and then the rotation was great, plus Bobby Jenks. So you have 11 players that were more notable on the 2005 team than Rowand. I just don't get it.

But Rowand had da fire and da passion.
You can't put a number on da fire and da passion.

If the Sox had kept Geoff Blum, we would be on the way to our third straight title.

Aaron Rowand was the top available free agent OF in my sportsline fantasy baseball league. Needless to say, I passed on him. Would he have improved the chemistry on my team had I picked him up, and led me to a championship ?

If so, Rowand is your man.
