Today we lost a legend. It’s with an extremely heavy heart that we announce the passing of our fearless leader, our friend, our family member- the one and only, Bob Chinn. To know him was to love him and he was known by so many. His larger-than-life personality and famous tastebuds gave us 99 fantastic years of excitement, innovation and countless smiles. Everyone who has walked through the doors of his eponymous restaurant has been a part of this incredible journey and we’d like to thank you all. Bob Chinn, a longtime successful Wheeling restauranteur before struggling to keep up with nearby Boston Fish Market, died this morning from natural causes, per his eponymous restaurant's Facebook page. Chinn would have turned 100 years old on March 23.

i got my grandpa to 100 years old. yeah he was pretty much chair-bound blind and kept asking who the little girl in the house was for the last year of his life, but i got him to that fucking 100yr party that the man the myth the legend deserved. it was a glorious day.

His "Bob Chinn's 34th St. Fishery" on Ogden is now a Schmaltz Delicatessen.

Technically that wasn't Bob Chinns, it was a nephew (or something like that). It was pretty much the same menu though, albeit in a much smaller location.

I always saw it as Red Lobster for non Black folks. But I will admit to enjoying their version of Oysters Rockefeller.

The daily fish specials were flown in daily and were as fresh as you can get in the midwest. Not exactly like Applebees.

Ok, I hadn't seen your post, but I was driving up to Chicago the last couple of days with one of my cousins and Bob's death came up. And I swear I said "Red Lobster for people who think they are too classy for Red Lobster now that they live in Northbrook or Wheeling."

The future holds the possibility to be great or terrible, and since it has not yet occurred it remains simultaneously both.

People from Wheeling are not too classy for Red Lobster.
